What’s New: Lucinda’s Top Discoveries For January

A new feature I’m keen to introduce for 2021 is my monthly discoveries, a round-up of the best things I’ve come across in the past few weeks and wanted to share with you. Hopefully, you’ll find something that will inspire, entertain or simply brighten up your day.

Fresh baby food for busy parents, delivered

I am blown away by Sweet Pea Spoons. It’s a subscription service that parents can sign up to and receive handmade, fresh baby meals right to their door. The small business recently announced delivery is now possible nationwide! Sweet Pea Spoons recognised a gap in the market in wanting to support time-poor parents who want to feed their child nutritious and tasty meals but don’t want to resort to store-bought pouches. Every flavour has been expertly developed with a nutritionist using seasonal ingredients to familiarise your baby with diverse flavours from an early age. I’m sure we all know some new parents who could do with this helping hand!

Give a laptop

Pass on old laptops and computers to school children in need of them. Did your kids get a phone or tablet upgrade at Christmas? If you’ve got old devices lying around, it will make a huge difference if it’s possible to donate them. Many children shared learning devices during the last lockdown, so having their own computer or tablet this time would make the world of difference to their education. Charities across the UK are working to facilitate getting computers out to children, so check out the list by following the link below to find your nearest charity.

Discover a hidden world with geocaching

Dive into the world of geocaching to discover new places around you. This is a brilliant app that the whole family can get involved with. It’s an excuse to get outside (when the restrictions are lifted) and let the app lead you to new places you would never have visited otherwise.

Online mentoring sessions with Brain Labs

Oppidan Education is a fantastic online learning platform that connects children with mentors. The platform doesn’t offer tutors to help your kids through GCSEs and A-Levels but rather mentors who can help your child prepare for the world. As well as education, children need to be equipped with resilience, empathy and independence and these are precisely the skills in personal development Oppidan Education aims to teach.

Ghosts, Dolly Alderton’s latest novel

I loved reading Dolly’s Everything I Know About Love, so was keen to pick up a copy of Ghosts which was released late last year. It tells the tale of Nina Dean as she enters her thirties, a time where friendships become more distant, ex-boyfriends have moved on and everyone is leaving the city. Similar to Everything I Know, Dolly examines the themes of relationships, friendships and family.

Empowering activewear from Oliver Bonas

Say hello to OB Active, a wicked new collection that Oliver Bonas has launched, inspired by the first lockdown — a lifetime ago, right? We all know that sitting in our pyjamas all day isn’t good for us, so switching into some comfortable activewear at the starting of the WFH day makes a lot of sense. Plus, what could be better to inspire you to actually go for your morning jog (or brisk walk) than a lovely new sports top and leggings?

A hilarious guide to middle age

Amongst all of the rubbish that lands in my inbox, the Midult is a refreshing newsletter I love to read. Packed with anecdotes, conversations and useful tidbits, Midulthood, aimed at women from 35 to 55, is redefining the boundaries of middle age. Perhaps we’ve all been in the house too long but the Sounds of Madness article seemed to ring a little too true…

Hosted in all of the London Farmshops (Marylebone, Notting Hill and Pimlico Road) every Wednesday from 3:30pm-4:30pm, the activity hours are free to attend.

Each week they will be doing a different, fun, and educational activity that children will love, such as colouring, making jam jar posies, flower pressing and herb planting.

Daylesford Notting Hill, 208-212 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill, London W11 2RH

TLM Monthly Edit : August 2017

Who would think the quietest working month of the year would be so flipping packed full of new products and services! There is no sympathy for parents who are herding wild children around the country for the best of 6 weeks. We are expected to reply within 3 days and then if we agree to a collaboration – to have it done within a week. Oh no, no, no. Last year I ‘took’ August off, because I could but now I have tenancies with a few brands and have to cover my quota per month. Not that I mind. Any excuse to pursue the world-wide web is fine in my opinion (not so much in my families – but hey!

So, what have I got to report this month?  There are a lot of new apps to make your life easier!!

First off however, I have to give a mention to Ling’s Meadow, an eco-friendly camp site that we stayed in Suffolk for a few nights. Basically, we hired a ready put up bell tent and were supplied with sheets, fire, camp fire equipment to make us novices enjoy the experience whilst believing we were really hard-core camping.

img_7442

We weren’t, but I don’t care. It was perfect for and enabled the adults to relax whilst the kids ran off.

img_7298

That’s all you want isn’t it!

Qure is a new website that delivers a Dr to your door for a one off fee £70. They guarantee to be there within 2 hours and only it includes a 20 minute consultation. Currently covers SW1 and South West London. Definitely an app to download so it is at your fingertips.

Another super useful website is Fantastic Services. Covering cleaning, repairs and exteriors, you can book in 30 seconds and have someone out the next day (in uniform!) We had what looked like the Super Mario Brothers out to help us in the garden and they worked non stop and didn’t finish until the job was finished, over their allotted time. You can also download the Go Fantastic app on IOS or Android. Highly recommend.

fullsizerender-2

You know those times during the school holidays where you don’t know who is around, who is on holiday so you don’t bother contacting anyone? Well, now there is an app that you can get all your friends to download and can put what you are up to and does anyone else want to join. Genius!!!!!! Download Pal and give it a go!

A lovely mum at nursery, Gemma, who is a personal trainer in SW London, has set up Bespoke Body Plan. She creates individual training programs based on a Dynamic Pilates approach. Get in contact to secure some sessions this September! If she is anything to go by, by Christmas you will be the belle of the ball!

I have been on the hunt for a smart navy coat with a turned up collar (ever since watching Nordic Noir wear this look is a staple) and have finally found it on Esprit for £99. I love the contrast collar and pocket. The only hard thing to decide is whether to go burgundy, pale grey or navy blue!!

097cc1g027_400_20

I am a subscriber of School Notices which is basically like a word of mouth Gumtree and you sign-up through your kid’s school (this is worth a look in itself) however they drew my attention to a Nuvet which is a washable sheetless duvet.

If you have an aversion to boys in Breton and appliqué, British designed children swear brand Angels and Rockets is for you.  My youngest son has a Rocket sweat and jeans from them and he looks like an absolute dude.

Check out Instagram to see him in action!

We took Dr Wills BBQ and Tomato sauce camping and it was a great hit. They didn’t notice that it was ‘healthy’ i.e. no sugar or anything disguised as it. You can actually buy it online so why not support a small start-up and give them a go – they are delicious and the bottle are gorgeous!

1487899168251

So, that’s all folks. Oh, and if you are feeling slightly fried, Caudalie Beauty Elixir has just reached its 20 year anniversary and it’s definitely worth a spritz post shower to shake you into the day – like spraying gorgeous caffeine on your face but it actually moisturises!

Good luck with the lost week of the holidays – remember – finish well!!! and buy yourself some earrings – these have just landed on TLM Edit and I am home ready to send them out asap!!

TLM Monthly Edit

TLM Monthly Edit : July 2017

3 days in to the holidays and summer feels over. Fret not though, August looks set to be shinier than the latter half of July AND there are some fab sales at the moment. (Like you have time to peruse… but hey, if you do!)

I have discovered a fantastic new website, Love The Sales.  It basically takes all the sale items from most high street shops like Marks and Spencer, John Lewis, Oka, House of Fraser and online websites (oxymoron yes, but trying to be clear!)  like Asos, Gap and Isabel Marant to name a few – and puts them all in one place.

As a mega fan of converse trainers and proud owner of my silver star ones, I am seriously contemplating buying another pair in advance  of them ever failing me.

fullsizerender-113

Also includes Home, Outdoor and kids. Look at the bargains to be had on branded swimming floats!

Next up on my July hit list are a couple of weekend away ideas close to London (without the kids). The Horse Guards Inn near Petworth, West Sussex looks very cosy.

img_2183

Black Pig Retreats near Shaftsbury in Dorset is a picturesque glamping site with ready made Safari Tents. Perfect for some quiet time or to get the kids out of the big smoke for a couple of days.

With the long holidays looming, now is a perfect time to introduce you to Kidadl. It is a handpicked list of amazing things to do with your family in London every weekend. Sign up to receive the weekly newsletter. I have!

We all want to save a few pennies and Switchcraft can do it for you.

It’s an automated, free, energy switching website. Sign up with them for free (takes 2 minutes) and they keep you on the best deal, switching you when a better deal becomes available.

Started by Andrew and his wife who live in Barnes with their two pre-schoolers – it has gone from strength to strength and has enabled many families to save much needed pennies. The friend who introduced me to Switchcraft signed up in May & have already saved £500+.

If you are looking for a fun, time consuming (i.e. drag it out) craft activity try out Shrinkles. You may remember when you were little putting crisp packets in the oven (supervised of course) and they would shrink and harden – well now there is a way todo this properly. Cut out, colour in your Shrinkle, then whack it in the oven and out comes a little key ring or toy for them to play with that they have made!

New Kids on The Block!

Summerdown Mint is a farm in the Hampshire Downs that sell all things Peppermint. I particularly love their Black Mitcham Mint Body,Bath & Home Range. It is so fresh. They offer gift wrapping so a perfect present for someone who has just loved house.

Voted one of the top 13 Rose’s by The Independent and Waitrose, Make Me Blush not only looks swell it tastes great. By cutting out the middle man and having it delivered straight to your door from Italy, it is also significantly cheaper that it would be in shops.

Edward Bulmer is a pioneering creator of perfect colours using truly natural paint. Drawing on years of experience as an interior designer, (being a Daddy!) and inspired by nature, he has now created twelve beautiful new colours for children. The Nursery Collection is fun yet classic and adaptable enough to last throughout childhood.

Services TLM Monthly Edit

TLM Monthly Edit : June 2017

So many new brands to bring to your attention this month. It astounds me how many talented people there are out there and how there is never a drought of original and clever ideas.

My Paper Tote

These bags are genius.  Chloe the founder sums them up more articulately than I can. I can just agree with her!

my_tote7_1024x10242x

Our bags are tear resistant, reusable, washable and beautifully crafted from strong paper in a modern and functional way. It can be hard to choose a bag for every day with so many options out there.  Our go to material is more often than not leather, chosen for it’s strength and looks, but this often gives us a heavy bag with the unfriendly environmental issues associated with the material. The paper we use is strong and flexible which makes it a rival to leather in feel, look and durability.

I love the ‘Mummy & Daughter’ ones too!

tote_adjusted3_1024x10242x

It can carry a great weight and fit a lot in! Here is mine in action!

KidStart

Who doesn’t like shopping and now there is a way to justify it. Every time you spend when you buy through KidStart, you can actually save real money for your kids. All the big brands are involved so you can start by doing your weekly shopping through it knowing you are saving the coppers for little Timmy!

For every sign up they are offering a free child’s ticket for Chessington World Of Adventures with every adult ticket bought (maximum of 2 per unique code). To claim them you need to sign up to KidStart which is free and then head to the Chessington World of Adventures page and click to claim the offer which then takes you to a page to download your unique code.

Joanna Archer Garden Design

Total overhaul or little tweak, Joanna can do any job at hand with her highly skilled green fingers.

Before that, she had a career in the television industry overseeing the launch of some much loved children’s programming. She is an RHS qualified horticulturalist and enjoys being amongst flowering plants and butterflies, exploring combinations of texture and colour to use in her next design.  Contact her here

Little Wooden Painting

Pete Hawkins is a highly acclaimed artist who has turned his hands kids paintings on drift wood. A really original gift or if you have a space on your wall – you could order a bespoke one  and have it personalised too!

Manyatta

We went to a cricket match at a school the other day and one if the masters was selling gorgeous belts.

manyatta_belts2

They are made by women in the Masai and as consequence does great good among impoverished Maasai families. They are exceptionally high quality and come in a wonderful array of colours.

Lolgorian, Kenya. Siria Maasai Manyatta; group of girls with traditional bead neck adornments, keys, whistles, chains, belts.

I particularly like the Scarlet & Gold, which depending what size you buy is between £65 and £75.

Mimosa Baby

New brand alert and it is pretty sweet! Mimosa Baby does cute kids clothes, appliqué, Liberty print etc but what caught my eye are the ‘Mummy Jumpers’ that you can subtly twin with your kids. For example this sweatshirt  for you with these pantaloons for him/her

You can see my new one here! I love it!!

The Modesty Company

This is genius. You know when you are doing your hair or make up in the shower with a towel wrapped round but you cant do it properly as it keeps on falling down? Well, you need one of these! After I dry myself, I throw this on and go about my morning, without worrying the kids will pull my towel down in front of the builders! It’s super luxe and beautifully presented and would make such a lovely gift – especially for a bride to be!

TLM Monthly Edit

TLM Monthly Edit : May 2017

This month is flying by and has actually been relatively quiet on the old blogging front as my website TLM Edit has been taking up a lot of time as you guys have been amazingly supportive and making quite a few purchases. I am on average making two trips to the post office a day which in some minds eye is a huge burden, but when my Shopify app peeps with a new transaction, I can’t really complain!

Tassel Bracelet

So what has caught my eye this month….

Aromatherapy Massage with Jenny James

I was lucky to have one of the famous Jenny James Aromatherapy massages last week. Despite having a fantastic reputation, I didn’t pin any hopes on it being amazing as I am mega fussy about massages. But oh, I should have as she exceeded expectations.

She mixed the most gorgeous oils just for me after  a quick questionnaire and then got to work quickly and my massage. Wow, was she strong and brilliant (I dislike a feeble massage!) Excuse the cliche but I learnt about muscles I didn’t know existed and even learn a few methods for relaxing your jaw (if you are a subconscious clencher like me.) She also does pregnancy, post natal and baby massage so if you want to unwind and feel great, head to her to be assured that she will sort you out!

Simply Be

Simply Be very kindly gave me a £100 voucher to buy a few bits for the summer. I went for a Navy & White beach bag, a black swimming costume, Pom Pom sandals and a navy blue long skirt. You can check out their holiday collection here.

Handmade Sweatshirts from Colour Attic

Rebecca makes leopard and contrast colour sweatshirts from her little cottage. I love this red one but also had my eye on the yellow as a little nod to this seasons most popular colour. She is a real craftswoman and if you are in the running for a new sweater, please head to her website (if in doubt go for the grey!)! x

My Little Koala

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Leila Raifiei makes Breastfeeding covers in lovely fabrics, perfect for the summer when it is too hot to layer!

My Little Koala

Cocoa Brown One Hour Tan Mouse

When I tried this and it looked great, I was surprised that it was only £9.99! You apply it with a pink mitt that comes with the mouse and was it for the tan to develop before you wash it off. It is pretty fool proof and shows that you don’t have to buy anything too expensive for it to be good.

We stumbled on Chicama after a spot of late night shopping this week and couldn’t believe our luck that we managed to get a table as it was rammed. On first impressions it is a seafood restaurant but it is actually Peruvian inspired. Do you know what Peruvian food is like? No, neither did I but I urge you to go here on a date night with friends and get a few sharing plates – especially the Ceviche. It was phenomenal and the staff are lovely too!

Woman & Home Feature – June Edition

Very excitingly I was featured in Woman & Home June Edition talking about our families stance on children and the amount of screen time we allow, if any at all! We were smack bang in the middle…

TLM Monthly Edit

TLM Monthly Edit : April 2017

I hope you had a very happy Easter holidays and the kids have settled back in. I am catching up on a few bits after the break as it is just not possible to stay on top of everything. Feeding and caring for them is enough!  This April, I have so many goodies to share (I know I say that every month but I love the mix of my monthly edits) and there is something to interest everyone whether it’s fashion, events and new websites.

If you missed my posts over the holidays, do catch up!

SpareMyTime is a great website if you are looking for handymen.

If you are struggling living in the moment, you will find this post on How To Be Happy very helpful.

If you are wondering about kids and pocket money, have a read of this.

Want to refresh your memory and teach your kids historical dates? You will love this post!

If you are looking to update your make up routine, I had a great make up lesson with Tori Harris make up  at The Boutique in Fulham.  She is available for Bridal make up or just a lesson and well worth it if you need an overhaul with her down to earth approach no nonsense approach.

The boutique also sells gowns and bridal accessories and does really good workshops that would be great for a hen do – jewellery, florists, calligraphy and fascinator workshop.  I had great fun playing dress up!

I have updated the What’s On and Notices. Lots more events including parenting workshops and pop ups fairs and positions such as houses to rent and jobs available.

Picassos in The Park have just launched both adult and childrens art classes in Wandsworth, Barnes & Kennington and they are fab and so interactive so take a look if you are a bit of a master.

I am very tempted by this from Roro Retreats.  They are a boutique yoga retreat company and  running a family yoga holiday in Andalucia, Spain, 27 May – 3 June.

Renowned yoga teachers Tara Fraser and Nigel Jones, will lead parents-only classes while your children are supervised with a host of exciting activities. There are also opportunities for family yoga classes. RoRoRetreats are offering good deals at the moment, so get in touch here

I have just updated my Insta Shop with all the photos that I put over on Instagram with a link to buy them.  Here are a couple of photos that I have just added.

Marlon London launched a limited edition Marloe scarf blanket on Mothers Daywith 100% of profits from sales being given to The Gynaecological Cancer Fund for the month of April and 25% from thereafter. The collaboration is with Lady Garden Campaign and being fronted by mother of two Chloe Delevingne and they are being sold exclusively in Selfridges and at marloelondon.com. They are made of bamboo and cotton and dip dyed in the UK. They would make a lovely present and double up as a scarf, a blanket, a swaddle and a rug!

I have seen this top on a lot of the top fashion bloggers and so when I wondered into Next, I had to try it on and see what all the fuss was about. It was justified. It not only feels gorgeous, it fits well and I think looks rather nice (although it is objective – my husband just chuckles – they so don’t get it). It also comes in Blue!

If you like this style, I am about to do a post on Embroidered tops, so make sure you sign up so you don’t miss it.

high waisted

I just want to flag up these high waisted jeans from Marks and Spencer. They have been my gentle introduction into high waisted jeans and now I don’t think I will ever (or could) go back!

Bumble & Ava  are a mother and daughter duo who have just launched their first collection. There are so many cute outfits for boys and girls age 0-5. Part of the profits go back to the women in Kenya who have made the dresses.  I love this Blue Poppy Pinafore!

An old friend has a little business turning antique linen into beautiful childrens clothes, Ellie’s Heirlooms. The quality is amazing and the designs are all original and are so beautiful you all want to keep them to pass on to the next generation.

There are a few new additions to the Directory this month.

Alexa Kidd May Photography specialises in natural, relaxed photography in an environment that encourages you and your children to be themselves. Her sessions are about capturing the true personalities that define your family – discovering those connections between you and finding the individual moments that can pass in the blink of an eye.

“At the heart of every session is my belief that the experience should be fun. I don’t wait for everyone to look at the camera; I capture the cheeky glances, the tickles and laughter, the little peeks and the big leaps that sum up the unique characters within your family.”

The Baby Sleep Shop is an online boutique specialising in baby sleeping bags, swaddles and nursery décor. Featuring an unrivalled selection of top global brands of baby sleeping bags including: Merino, Liberty print, organic, travel, summer and even those with comforting taggys attached – a one stop shop for safe and stylish sleep! The Baby Sleep Shop have recently launched their new Spring collection, of premium nursery wallpapers and beautiful New Zealand wool rugs as well as a selection of other unique gifts for Mama and Baby.

Mother Ivy Holiday Park seems to be the place to stay in Cornwall if you want to mix things up and camp or stay in a caravan or motor home. It looks idyllic.

What Else?

There are two online fashion emporiums I have recently come across. The first is Oysho.  IN terms of style, I would say Zara and Mango had better watch their back as these guys are a fraction of the price but the website is beautifully laid out and there are a lot of desirable things on it. I like the look of this feminine nightie! £25.99

Another website that has come up trumps is Shein. Think high fashion, low prices – a bit like Primark but they actually have a website. I have bought four tops from them for £58 and love them. One to watch.

I have been on the hunt for a birthday present and found a really good website Mahi Leather that sells personalised leather bags, holdalls and duffles that you can personalise all at a really reasonable price.

Basically, you fill in age, gender, style and what clothes they need and your stylist will send you a box for you to try on at home. You only keep what you want and sent the rest back. Here is an example of one of the outfits they sent for my 6 year old!

I wrote a piece on my Top 5 Things To Do in Surrey for the Rail Delivery Group, #maketracks Campaign.

A pal of mine and her boyfriend, Carolyn and Carlos from The Whale Company are going to paddle 12 marathons across Europe on Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP) made of PLASTIC BOTTLES. In every location they will teach the local community how to build plastic bottle boards to raise awareness of the problems of plastic pollution in the ocean and to make SUP affordable for all. You can follow there progress here
