Dr Tamsin Hayward : The Wrinkle Dr

London Mummy of 2 little boys, Dr Tamsin Hayward, is the lady to know if you’re considering cosmetic injectables.   Tamsin set up her business The Wrinkle Dr after recognising the need for affordable treatments by an accessible local Doctor.  In addition to cosmetic work, Tamsin is an NHS GP in a surgery in Parsons Green, teaches pediatric first aid courses for Lulubaby.

FullSizeRender(209)

Tamsin specialises in wrinkle-reducing injections i.e. Botox® and Dermal fillers.  She also performs thread vein and blemish removal and consultations for eyelash growth treatments – Lumigan. It was an absolute eye opener how many different treatments she could perform. I was like a kid in a sweet shop reading through the list of treatments (although I still vow injectibles aren’t for me quite yet!)

IMG_5996

My friend who I went with to meet Tamsin, was keen to try Botox on her forehead and get her crows feet ‘done’. Tamsin was so informative and patient answering all her questions and queries. She (who herself is a walking advert for her own services – she looks stunning) immediately put my friend at ease. Tamsin is renowned for her gentle injection technique, honest approach and ethos to achieve a natural look. There won’t be any ‘trout pout’ disasters if you see The Wrinkle Doctor.

The results were subtle yet made my friend look and feel a million dollars. She has lots of before and afters on here website, for you to see for yourself.

Olivia Read : Life Coach

Endless to do lists? Inability to prioritise? Juggling a lot of balls and dropping plenty? These are a few things that I am struggling with at the moment, so I went to meet Olivia Read who had been recommended as a Life Coach.

IMG_5937

Olivia helps people bridge the gap from where they are now to where they want to be. Away from the noise and distraction of everyday life, they have the freedom to talk things through and discuss what they want to achieve. Through careful intuitive questioning and fresh perspective, she will un-peel the layers to give clarity and tangible steps needed to move forwards.

Life coaching provides practical help for people want a change. Put simply, it’s about getting clear on what you want, making a plan and doing it. It can cover any topics such as relationships, careers, negative self esteem and an identity crises.

I met Olivia on a gloomy Tuesday morning in January at the Dorsett Hotel and was immediately put at ease by her calm, non judgmental and empathetic nature.

She has the ability to make you see situations and aspects of your life from a different perspective and I came away feeling significantly lighter and clearer of what to do, what to drop, what to prioritise.  I had a few ‘light bulb’ moments and I know that for whoever commits to her course, they will too be given a fresh perspective, sound advice and be armed for whatever life throws at them.

Jonathan Self : Time For Family Photos!

Trying to get a good photo of one of our children is hard enough (although I try frequently enough) and all 3 together is virtually impossible. Usually one looks grumpy, one is running off, one is hiding their face – you know the score. We had sidelined trying to get that elusive family shot until the youngest was atleast 8 for the aforementioned reasons. So when we were recommended Jonathan Self who takes family photos, I was thrilled – it was his challenge now, not mine…

Jonathan Self is a London based freelance photographer who shoots mainly family and lifestyle portraits.  He popped over a few days before the shoot to meet the kids and discuss where we wanted to do it and what kind of shots we wanted. He prefers to do a few shots inside at home and then head outside to a park or garden. Richmond, Chiswick House, Regents Park, Hyde Park, St James Park, Kew, Syon are some of the places that he has shot at. We chose Fulham Palace as it was not only close & picturesque – it was enclosed!

Hopefully from the photos below you will be able to see that Jonathan is not only technically skilled, he is able to capture a moment.

Ready To Go Back To Work?

At the school gates this morning, I signaled to some mothers in my oldest sons class ‘coffee?’ and they either mouthed back ‘work’ or ‘interview’ or ‘new job’. I never received this memo! However, in all seriousness, I am thrilled for my friends who are finding their feet – returning to work or are embarking on a new start up themselves. (More Spotlights for TLM!)

One such mother, Charlotte Billington, a mother of two boys, has written a fantastic book What To Do Next? to guide you on your way if you are slightly unsure of the route you want to take or have absolutely no idea!

photo

Charlotte is a professional career coach who is passionate about helping people reach their career potential and find a job they love.  With a solid business background in recruitment, career guidance and coaching, she has worked for some of the best known companies in London.

Intuitive, practical and wanting to inspire others, Charlotte strongly believes that everyone, with some help and guidance, is capable of great things at work. Her overall purpose in life is to help others shine in the jobs they choose, to enjoy it and, most importantly, to get real satisfaction from it. That is why she has written this book – to help people be the best they can be and make the best choices to achieve happiness in their careers.  As well as being for individuals, the book could also be used for outplacement purposes following redundancy.

photo 2

In her role as a career coach, Charlotte realised that there was a gap in the market for a practical, uncomplicated, exercise type career guidance book. She therefore used her wealth of knowledge and 20 years experience to create What To Do Next? The book contains a series of exercises and questions designed to draw out the individual and unique skills, strengths and motivators of anyone wanting to make a change in their career.

Peppered with motivational quotes and divided into manageable sections, each chapter is a step-by-step process, encouraging the reader to gather information about themselves.  Once they are in possession of all of these findings, they will then, in the final chapters, be able to work through what they want to do next.

photo 1

Charlotte advises professionals from a large variety of different industries and What To Do Next? is ideal for a broad spectrum of professionals. From new mums looking to return to work, as well as those who have had years out, mid-level and senior professionals who feel unfulfilled in their current job and want to change tack, and retirees looking for a purpose.

Ultimately, the aim of the book is to assist and coach anyone looking to make a change in their career, towards finding a job so suited, that it will not feel like work.

Sophie Cann : The Bird Box

One of the most frequent questions I am asked about my blog is, ‘how do I make money from The London Mummy?’  The simple answer is, I don’t! Many blogs sell advertising space (I don’t have time to get my act together at the moment to do this – hopefully 2016 is my year), use affiliate marketing (generally only the big companies enable this so you lose your authenticity as you only include the large established companies) or do sponsored posts (where you are basically paid to write about something).  My aim is to only ever include items, people and places that I genuinely love.  I want a central place to showcase all the amazing business’s and products that are new to the market and support people who are making their way.

However, (always a however) in order to write an authentic post, I do have to have some sort of experience of the product, service or place so I often include topics that I have used (or would like to use), that have been directly recommended to me (I love hearing about new things – please send me any ideas) The same stands for new products. Occasionally however, one of the bonus’s is, I am sometimes gifted a few items… A recent arrival was a beautiful gift box hand delivered by the lovely Sophie from The Bird Box.  She arrived with a stylish and generous package, packed with 2 scented candles, body wash, body cream and children’s body wash. It was such a treat as it is not something that I would usually buy myself. I can genuinely say that they are the most gorgeous products and I am so excited for Sophie’s little business.

Sophie has a great story of how she came to start The Bird Box.

“Firstly as a singleton, then as a wife and mother, I enjoyed living in London for 12 years before playing “musical chairs” with my family     home.  My husband and I decided to decamp from London to Berkshire. Unconvinced, we moved back to London before finally deciding country life did actually suit us better, so we moved back to Berkshire again! (Sigh… and breath!!!)  I finally feel settled and happy here in Berkshire with my lovely husband, two gorgeous children and my two smelly dogs.”

It was whilst she was pregnant with her daughter Cece that she had the desire to set up a beauty and lifestyle retreat called “The Bird Box” in converted stables at the end of their driveway.  Unfortunately gaining planning permission was slightly trickier than anticipated, but she still believed in The Bird Box idea. So undeterred, she decided to focus on the home and beauty aspects and set about developing her products.

gift_box_3_1024x1024

“I have always been a very creative person and have always been hugely passionate about the quality of the products I use, so it was only natural for me to create my own candles, scents and beauty products, thus The Bird Box was born.”

It’s her mission to create beautiful, original, artisan products of the highest quality that you’d want to buy for yourself and not just for friends (because as women we too often put ourselves last on the list, don’t we?).  And it is a bit of a girl thing – over 95% of all candles are bought by women!

Christmas Bird Box Photo

With this in mind, she wanted to give something back. Having a daughter massively changed her personally and her outlook on life. She felt so blessed and fortunate to be a woman born into western society.

“We take for granted so many everyday choices and rights; like simply getting an education or choosing who we are going to marry.  An enormous amount of women all over the world do not have these rights, and as a citizen of the world I want to help these women in any way I can. With this in mind, I choose to donate 5% of all my profits to PLAN International’s “I am a girl” campaign.  I know it’s only a token gesture, but I believe if we all make a little effort to support each other then great things can happen!”

As for her future, Sophie has lots of exciting plans and aspirations for The Bird Box. She is currently balancing being a mummy to a very young family and being an entrepreneur.  She has determination and a belief that she will get to where she wants to be – it may just take her a little longer – but no doubt it will be sweeter for it!

Caroline Hetterschijt : Four Fairies and a Prince

One of my favourite ‘go to’ children’s wear and accessory websites is Four Fairies and a Prince. It launched the website in October 2013 when Caroline met Pinja at  NCT when they were both expecting their two oldest ‘fairies’.

SPFkleur-klein-86(1)

They were both dreaming about starting their our own business and were ready for a new challenge.  They share the love of children’s clothing from Scandinavia and the Netherlands. About a year before they launched the website they started setting it all up, designing the website, the buying etc.  A few month before the launch Pinja gave birth to her second daughter and Caroline gave birth to number three.  By October they were ready to go live with their first collection and they gave up their jobs!

Parenting Tip :

This is a tricky one, I think that I will find out in 10-15 years if I have done the right things. I try to stay close to myself (which does mean that I do lose my patience once in a while as well….) and raise them in loving and social family. There is a lot of advice out there that comes to you via books, friends, internet of just random people in the street that think they have solutions for everything. It is good to listen but do pick things that work for you, feel right and work for your children and family. I strongly believe that if you raise your children with confidence and love, more then half the job has been done!”

Katie Cullinan : Richard Cullinan Joinery

Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a house that had a place for everything.  You could hide all evidence that you had children (!) for a more aesthetically pleasing home without the plastic contraptions glaring at you from every corner. One can dream. Or one can action! Joinery…

Richard Cullinan Joinery is a family business that Katie’s parents set up in 1978 and she joined them in November 2011, after deciding to leave the law.  They have a workshop down in the pretty and historic town of Rye on the East Sussex coast, where their team of joiners produce made-to-measure cabinets and fitments for homes and offices. They can build anything – so everything has somewhere to go!

rcj_019

The process starts with a meeting on site, to see the available space and to find out what the client wants.  She discuss’s the options, takes measurements and then they prepare CAD drawings for review and a quote.  There might be some feedback from the client to make some adjustments to the design, and once the design is agreed she will return to double check measurements and then the joinery will be put into production.  Once the order is placed delivery is usually within 6-8 weeks.

Katie has experience how to make an efficient and spacious toy cupboard. I dream of having a house that you can’t see any evidence of children!

If you are looking to create more space in your children’s room, Richard Cullinan Joinery is a master of this.

They work with private clients, interior designers, architects and building contractors.  The size of their projects range from a simple bookcase to a house being completely refurbished, for which they might supply a complete range of cabinets including wardrobes, bookcases, media units and bathroom cabinets.

If you need any expert joinery – Katie is your go to girl!

Having both spent a significant part of their lives living in SW6 they had hands on experience buying and selling property there so they really understood first-hand the emotional and time-consuming nature of the process.  With five years under their belt now they offer a well established and renowned local property search service to families, young professionals, and investors alike looking to find the right property for them, at a competitive price within their budget.
