Whimsey Wood Children’s Books

Despite having 2 wonderful daughters, a cheeky baby son, a great husband, 2 rescue cats and 2 squeaky guinea pigs, Sarah Hill still manages to find time to write her wonderful children’s books.  I read Posie Pixie and The Snowstorm to my 4 year old son and he hung on every word.

‘Whimsy Wood’ children’s series consists of 35 books, which are divided into 5 sets each containing 7 books. Every book is written for a specific month in the calendar, so the flora and fauna change as you read through the series. There is also a proverb tucked into every story for the reader to find, giving her books real meaning. They would make a lovely present for a little one. 10% of her ‘Whimsy Wood’ book sales are donated to The Wildlife Trusts UK.

Cellandia: Cards For All Occasions

Beautiful stationary is one of life’s little luxuries.  It’s one luxury I don’t have enough of. I rummaged through my stationary draw this week to find a suitable thank you for a Christening this last weekend and all that I could come up with, was old regulation writing paper from boarding school and a couple of the free packs of cards you get sent by charities at Christmas.

Luckily, I have somewhere to turn.  Lovely London based Laura, has cornered a gap in the luxury card market with her original prints and themes, inspired by her love of photography.

A Hip Kid: Glass Accessories

After producing a crunched and leaking Evian bottle at an after school picnic yesterday, I realised that this means of water consumption for the next 5 warm (!) months was not going to suffice. What to do?  I think I have a chic and practical answer.

A Hip Kid, a lifestyle brand, as featured in the May/June Edition of Vogue, was started by two friends, Camilla Hicks, based in Clapham, and Avery Kaufman-Benemache, an American currently living in Paris.

Camilla and Avery

Avery and Camilla

Over Avery’s kitchen table in Paris, they had an idea for glass baby bottles which are more hygienic, with non slip (and non smash!) silicon sleeves.

They proved so popular, they ventured into other areas and now have a large number of products. On my wish list are the stemless wine glasses – perfect for slippery sun creamed hands at the beach.

The water bottles are also very cool, a great replacement for my plastic bottle and they would even spur the laziest person to exercise. All the gear no idea…

Georgie Colquhoun : Cooking Them Healthy

If I’m jumping on the ‘healthy eating’ bandwagon, it must be going mainstream. My rotating repertoire of unoriginal supper’s has stooped to a new low. I gave my friend’s child Spaghetti Hoops and Hotdogs for lunch on Friday!  I need help. Pronto.

Luckily, there is an answer.  Cooking Them Healthy is a sparkling website full of inspiration, from snacks to supper’s and everything in between, for your little mite’s.

Georgie and Jo, the founders, hold great value in the art of using ingredients to heal and strengthen and with their combined knowledge of both food and nutrition, they hope to create the perfect “go to” place for parents to learn more about health topics. I believe, this they have done. The information in the media can be overwhelming so they aim to debunk the confusion and provide you with what you really need to know for a healthy family.

One of Georgie’s most popular recipe’s to make with her children the It’s a Wrap Pizza as it covers all ages including her husband!

One of my favourite categories on the website is the Essential Shopping Basket.  There is a list of key healthy ingredients that are easy to throw into your weekly shop, paired with helpful delicious recipes.

Thank goodness for this jam packed website full of information to inspire – clearly and helpfully laid out. Bookmarked!

Parsons Green Film Society

Parsons Green Film Society is a new society founded to create a space for independent cinema.

Jane Strang Steel and her business partner, Howard Goldstein are both passionate film fans with backgrounds in media, film and TV. They wanted to build a membership of fellow film lovers and a local place to find movies not readily available in mainstream cinemas – classics, documentaries, foreign language and independents. The community aspect of PGFS was really important to them, and their audience loves the social element of the film nights too. With a new baby, it was a local project that Jane could work around motherhood!

It’s a great opportunity to get out of the proverbial ‘mainstream bubble’ and see interesting films not on in local cinemas.

Lumitrix: Photographic Prints For Your Wall

Lumitrix’s mission is to offer the very best in photographic talent.  They want people to be able to buy beautiful photographs for a price that is accessible and without having to go through a traditional gallery. They represent a carefully curated gallery of images that is growing all the time – signing new photographers with a wide range of subject matter for example, landscapes, horses, wildlife and cars. I particularly love this snap of a surfboard on Bondi Beach.

Tommy Clarke's 'Bondi'

Tommy Clarke’s ‘Bondi’

Lumitrix’s founder, Cara Connell, is a freelance photographer herself.  Struck by how hard it is to break into the fine art photography market, Cara launched Lumitrix in 2013 to give talented photographers a new platform for their work. Lumitrix now represents photographers from around the world and is always searching for new talent. Some of their photographers are just starting out, and use Lumitrix as a springboard for their career. Others are already well-established and see Lumitrix as a great way to get more exposure for their work.

Laura Austin's 'Nergia Day'

Laura Austin’s ‘Nergia Day’

They sidestep a lot of the baffling issues that traditionally surround fine art photography by using a set pricing structure where the number of editions available is determined by the print size. The diffusion line, Lumiprints, offers our customers a more affordable entry point for our images (£50 each)

It is a clear website and very easy to navigate. It is the extensive and stylish choice of photograph’s that makes it difficult to decide!

Tinker and Belle: Beautiful Children’s Clothes

Gabrielle Murray, a delightful mother of 2, based in Edinburgh, started up Tinker and Belle as she couldn’t find ‘clothes that I liked; which were simple in shape, free of cartoon characters, branding and NOT PINK.’

She has rapidly gone from strength to strength and is so in demand she can hardly keep up.  Her clothes are beautiful and made to an exceptionally high standard. Even the packaging which they arrive in, is too good to open!
