Up Close with Georgie Coleridge Cole

If there is one lady in London who has her finger on the pulse, it is Georgie Coleridge Cole, Founder and Editor of SheerLuxe. For those of you who aren’t familiar with SheerLuxe (and I don’t imagine there are many of you) it is an online lifestyle magazine with an informative and fun podcastonline boutique, calendar of readers events (including a digital conference for budding entrepreneurs and a fashion day after LFW – can’t wait!), The Daily Brief (a daily email with an outline of things you need to know that are going on in the UK and the world), fashion updates and interior inspiration. Wow, I”m exhausted even writing that all and there is so much more that they cover too! (read here) Today though, I want to get to the brains behind this fantastic brand and get ‘up close’ with Georgie.

GCC

Let’s start with the one burning question we want to know – how DOES she do it…

What’s your secret to working whilst raising a family?

Help that’s consistent day to day or week to week. Whether that’s a really great nanny or a really good granny – you need regular committed help that is consistently there or you and your children don’t know whether you’re coming or going. Without it, you’re just making life even more chaotic and then everyone is left feeling crap.

What’s your advice for women with a business idea?

Do some research to ensure it’s a good product and a viable idea; then get on and do it.

What are you most excited about for SL at the moment?

The potential of different medias like video, podcasts and articles on a page and how they all work together to enhance your brand and engage with the reader. This autumn we relaunched our fly on the wall / behind the scenes youtube series and it has been really well received. It’s full on because we film all day every day but it’s also really different to what the competition are doing and adds another dimension in terms of how people connect with SheerLuxe. And also our podcast which we launched in April and has been really well received.

What’s your fashion style?

Simple, timeless and functional. I tend to wear jeans most days or cigarette pants with flats (white trainers, ankle boots, pumps) and then a blouse of some sort and a jacket or knitwear. I drop my eldest two children at the school, go straight to work, often have to pop back to school for something and then back to the office so it has to be relatively easy. My wardrobe is almost entirely black, white, grey and blush. With a bit of navy and a touch of coral.

3 items that make you feel a million dollars

A pink Raey shearling coat. My new Jacquemus top and an Isabel Marant dress (black and gold with an off the shoulder ruffle) my husband gave me for my birthday. I wore it two nights in a row.

Holiday Style : Let’s Kit The Boys Out

Thank goodness the selection of boys clothes in the shops has grown over the last few years. It used to be pretty basic but now if you know where to look the boys can give the girls a run for their money in the cuteness and originality stakes. There also more individual and dedicated websites just for the boys (more on that soon!)

However, I am pretty trad in how I dress the boys so high street shopping works for me.  There is a lot of blue. A lot of stripes. Nothing too way out. So if this is a little safe for you, I won’t be offended if you quietly move on. If you are in the running for some timeless basics, stick with me and let’s head to trusty M and S.

Younger boys : 0-5

Riptape Trainers from £16

Seeing as below the age of 10 they race through their shoes at  very high speed, best to go cheap and cheerful. These are very sweet too.

Riptape Young Boys Trainers

Dino Top from £5

Love the two tone endnote too overtly appliqué.

Young Boys Dino Long Sleeve T Shirt

Blue Cotton Star Print Top from £5

Same look as above but it wouldn’t be a TLM post without a star or two in it!

Boys Long Sleeve Star Top

Dude Long Sleeve Top from £5

I don’t love the motif on this but I do love the slightly different green if you are eating something a bit different to ‘safe’ blue.

Dude Long Sleeve Top

Textured Jumper from £12

I love how M and S have focussed on this subtle texture. It keeps the clothes simple enough but adds little bit of much needed detail on kids clothes.

Textured Boys Jumper

Pure Cotton Striped Jumper £12

This only goes up to 1 yr. Wish it went older.

Baby Blue & White Stripe Jumper

Older boys : 3-16

Driving Shoes : Grey from £26

Alot of the more popular coloured boys driving shoes have sold out but this practical grey which would go with everything is still in every size.

Boys Grey Suede Driving Shoes

‘Clogs’ from £9

Who would know these weren’t.. umm.. cough.. the original ones. I wouldn’t.

Boys Beach Shoes

Printed Swim Shorts from £10

These are really fun and I am a massive fan of slightly longer looking board shorts than shorter trunks that can look a bit ‘Copacabana beach’ in them if you get what I mean.

Electric Blue Boys Swimming Trunks

Dark Blue Swimmers from £10

These are really smart and would love them in a mens sizes.

Dark Blue Boys Swimmers

Striped Rash Vest from £8

Fresh and easily spotted from the other side of the swimming pool.

Striped Rash Vest

Footy PJs from £19

There is no avoiding the football obsession (lucky if you are) and a good way to avoid them wanting team pjs is to put these across their path.

Football PJ's

Checked Shirt from £12

Roll the sleeves up, unbutton a couple of the top buttons, which on some shorts and a great al fresco look.

Boys Check Shirt

Cotton Trunks from £8

Why are these called trunks? Anyway, there comes a time in every boys life when the briefs have to go and these have to enter. I would say from age 4 at the LATEST.

Cotton Pants

Green Colour Block Sunglasses £6

A bit of fun. Until they lose them!

Green Sunglasses

Hope this has helped and will emerald you to fill in any holiday clothing gaps for your little chap.

Holiday Style : 9 Flattering Summer Tops

Before I show you my edit of flattering summer tops that are new in at Marks & Spencer, I just wanted to share a new piece of research. Of 3,000 Brits surveyed,  96% of us live life on autopilot. The result? We say yes four times each day when we want to say no.  I know by the time the kids have left to school, I have said yes too many times. The worst Yes was spoken by me today, when I said Yes to Elsa coming to my 3 year olds birthday party – ahhh it’s next week. Is that going to happen? I really hope she forgets!

Dr Mark Williamson, director of Action for Happiness says

Autopilot makes it harder for us to make good choices, so we feel we’re living someone else’s life.  We must reconnect with what really matters; prioritise to-do lists, stop comparing ourselves to others, try new things and learn to say no (kindly). If it doesn’t make you feel extraordinary, say no – we only get one life, so let’s spend it well.

We are all on autopilot and we need to slow down and think wisely before committing ourselves.  One of my favourite sayings that I *try* to live by is…

Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Don’t say yes out of obligation or because you have space in your diary. Save your energy.

Anyway, here are 9 tops that I would say yes to (actually have already bought the first one and I LOVE it)

Embroidered Bardot Top Navy £25

Hurry, this top is selling fast!!

bardot top

Luckily I got my clammy hands on one. It is my piece de resistance.

Dark – doesn’t show dirt/jam fingers

Off the shoulder – who has chubby shoulders?

Tummy skimming – enough said

Good length – no builders bum with this one unless you are really being over at Gymboree!

Embroidered Bardot Top £25

This is the blue & white stripe version of the navy top I could wax lyrical about. It is so flattering  and even if you raise your arms like you just don’t care, it still works and doesn’t expose anything as your under arms stop it riding up. (If that doesn’t make sense, buy it and you will see what I mean)

Stripe Bardot Top £29.50

Yellow Ruffle Sleeve Top £35

It’s all about yellow this summer, so grab this top with both hands – it is a perfect transitional top before the tan as it covers most of you.

3/4 Sleeve Blouse £35

You can’t go wrong with a white top and this one with triple stitch detailing is sure to blow the lights out.

Navy Peasant Blouse £35

This is super useful school run top to throw on and still look stylish.

5 School Run Make Up Tips With ‘Not Such a Model Mum’

I have been a faithful follower of Jess & Caroline’s blog, Not Such a Model Mum since they launched about a year ago. It has grown from strength to strength over the year and become a go to fashion & beauty blog for a vast number of school run mums. With both a career in modelling, you know that their posts on fashion and beauty are written with solid experience and authority – and most importantly without being patronising to us mere mortals!

Jess, caroline & kids

Jess and Caroline met in 2003 as they were both signed to the same model agency, and have been friends ever since, despite not liking eachother when they first met!

The strength of their friendship also shines through in the beautiful photos that they use too.

yes6

Fast forward to 2010 and they thought we knew what we were doing – until they had children.

Coming back to work after having our kids, we realised how much the fashion industry had changed, and how much social media had changed the landscape of the fashion world. Like it or not, social media is here to stay, and if we wanted to stay part of the fashion world, we would have to embrace the change.

They had always spoken about setting something together, and with over three decades of modelling and fashion experience between them, they decided to set up a blog about all the tips they learnt from the fashion professionals, and the idea of NotSuchAModelMum developed from there – a fashion, mother and beauty blog with friendship at the heart.

THEIR 5 SCHOOL RUN MUM MAKE UP TIPS

Iridescent powder.

This neat little trick both brightens and opens the eyes and adds a little glow to otherwise shattered peepers – it works both on camera and most importantly, in real
life, off camera. Using your finger if you are in a rush, or a brush if you have more than two seconds, grab some MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Powder in the Soft and Gentle colour, or some Benefit High Beam and dab it in the inner eye around the tear duct and up slightly in the inner eye lid.

iridescent

The trick here is to blend, blend, blend and blend some more so that only a subtle trace of the iridescence is left. Illuminating and highlighting this area serves to subtly conceal darkness around the eyes and adds a natural radiance that makes you look like you had at least five hours sleep! Blog post is here

By terry concealer and foundation stick

Covering under eye bags from sleepless nights and giving dull, tired skin an all over, even glow, these two products literally take a minute to apply and can be done whilst running out the front door with the kids in tow. I carry them with me all the time. In fact, they are, thanks to that catalogue shoot, part of my nappy bag essentials. Nappies; wipes; By Terry Light Expert Click Brush foundation; and By Terry Touch Expert Advanced Concealer.

beauty_14_2930

Both products have complicated sounding names when they actually do something really simple. They work. Blog post is here.

The Eve Lom Rescue Mask

This has been around for ages. In the beauty industry, this longevity is the sign of a great product, and a winner in our book.

nsamm__face-mask_2343

The clay based formula of this particular mask is packed with natural ingredients, from honey to almonds. The Camphor brightens the complexion and draws out toxins. The mask can be used as part of a weekly routine or for emergency breakouts, which, frankly, when dealing with unhygienic children, are part and parcel of our lives! For more, our blog post is here here

Paula’s Choice Intensive Wrinkle Repair Serum

This is a great night time moisturiser, with a little added punch of Retinol. Retinol sounds like a scary chemical, but is , in fact the chemical name for Vitamin A. Just adding Retinol to your skincare routine has been proven to reduce wrinkles, increase collagen, improve skin tone, texture and dark spots.

retinol

All this can be done with minimal effort- just cleanse as always and then add the serum and then slap on your nighttime moisturizer. For more info, our blog post is here

School Run Style : With Marks & Spencer

We all know that the food is pretty unbeatable, the kids clothes are amazing and you will always get a well fitting bra at Marks and Spencer, but what about the women’s clothes? I have always found a few gems when I was walking through the womenswear section to get to the food hall but never actually set out to shop in ‘Marks and Sparks’.  After my latest little project, that has all changed and I will be heading back each season to see what they have pulled out the bag for that style season.

I was so excited to be given the challenge to pull a few of my favourites from the current season together and found it surprisingly easy. This Spring is set to be about frills, bows, fluted arms, embroidery and blush pink and apple green. (Ok, you may want to know how I know about these trends? I follow a lot of brilliant rule makers (and rule breakers – you always need them) over on Instagram who work in the industry and even set the trends over at  WGSN. I am just giving you a summary!)

My New Picks

These Embroidered Mid Rise Skinny Leg Jeans £35 are fab. I have not worn them out yet as I am drawn to mud at the best of times but can’t wait to pair them with some metallic trainers and a T-shirt and hit the ground running.

sd_01_t57_6978n_z4_x_ec_1

Check out the stunning detail on my pins.

img_2618

This Pure Cotton Half Sleeve Sweatshirt £25 is lovely and if I can keep it clean will be a firm throw on fave for the next few months.

sd_01_t41_4993_ky_x_ec_2

This is what it looks like on. It is a good length and the sleeves are really flattering. I love it. What do you think?

img_2622

Black jeans are my friend right up until August and with these zips drawing the eye in, it doesn’t matter if your ankles are a bit translucent, no one will be looking!

Zipped Pocket Skinny Leg Jeans £39.50

Skinny Black Jeans

They are so elongating and hold their shape! I am wearing them with a cotton stretch ivory bomber jacket I bought from M and S last year!

img_2629

These Bow Trainers with Insolia Flex £25 fit perfectly and are so comfortable (size 6) and I was pleased to get the thumbs up from my au pair who was just watching a you tube video of Spring trends and it was all about shoes with bows on them. Get in!

sd_01_t02_9722a_t0_x_ec_0

They even have a lovely inside so perfect for when you have to take your shoes off at the soft plat!

img_2633

My hero piece from all the collections, is this Long Sleeve Black Tassle Top £29.50

sd_01_t43_7257_y0_x_ec_2

It is really flattering, slightly fitted but not clingy. The 3/4 length sleeves are cute and make it a bit more girly and around the neckline softens what can be quite harsh – black close to the face. I wore it to a press launch  and out for dinner a couple of days later. (I did was it! It washed really well by the way and didn’t lose its shape.)

img_1926

My Other Picks

The Per Una collection personifies Spring, with the floral touches and pastel colours.

I love the splash of hot pink on this Embroidered Denim Shirt £39.50

sd_01_t43_1031_pd_x_ec_2

If you are a working mum who needs to drop and dash, check out Autograph – slightly more classic, with cleaner lines and more simple pieces. I love this Jumper With Detachable Belt.

sd_01_t38_5072_f0_x_ec_0

The Indigo Collection is  renowned for its off duty look and comfortable clothes – perfect for chasing a scooter down the road like a mad woman.

As a huge fan of detail, embroidery and embellishment, there were loads of gems to help you navigate from winter to spring.

The navy Embroidered Long Sleeve Kimono Top £39.50 is a great throw on to keep the chill out  and with 4 different colour stitching, it would work with a with turquoise, red, yellow or beige came underneath.

sd_01_t43_6121i_f4_x_ec_2

I love this Peasant Blouse £35 Perfect for throwing on with blue skinnies and pumps or trainers. Whack on some coral lipstick and brown shimmer eye shadow and voila.

Peasant Blouse

I eat T shirts for breakfast. That’s if the moths don’t first! I love this Metallic Frill T Shirt £22.50  and the extra frill not the shoulder will make your waist look smaller! Just don’t forget to fake tan first, grey can drain!

sd_01_t41_2157l_t0_x_ec_90

These White Lace Up Trainers £45 from the M and S Collection are so comfortable. Unfortunately the 7’s were too big and the 6’s a little small for me, but worth trying on as if they fit, they will be so practical from here on in.

sd_01_t02_0230_z0_x_ec_0

It also worth mentioning the Rosie for Autograph workout gear. I love her zip up sports jackets. If only I needed one!

Go and have a gander in your local store or online – I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

This post was written in collaboration with Marks and Spencer however all opinions are my own.

A Night at The Dorsett, Shepherds Bush

Having toyed with idea of a whistle-stop trip to the Westfield this morning or to head home after our getaway last night, I have chosen the latter. Not only will I save £££ (as there is always something that catches your eye there!) but I wanted to get this post out as soon as possible whilst it is still fresh in my mind!

34977202

An easy 10 minute bus journey from my house yesterday afternoon took me straight to the  Dorsett, opposite Shepherds Bush Green. By the discreet entrance you would never guess it is an 8-storey hotel with over 300 rooms, 2 restaurants, a bar a gym, a spa and plenty of conference rooms!

fullsizerender-10

I was swiftly shown to my room on the 6th floor. Actually, correction, it was one of their suites. It was quite breathtaking (not to be gushy, but it was really impressive).  Decorated to a high spec with an Asian influence, its piece de resistance were the panoramic views over Chez Bush.

fullsizerender-14

There was no confusion over which light switches turned on which lights at this hotel. The tech had clearly been thought out carefully.  I managed to set the AC on my first attempt and also worked out how to turn the TV on straight away. Ah you might laugh, but I am sure some of you will empathise that occasionally you need a phd to work it out! There was also an iPhone docking station and an iPad for your own use too!

fullsizerender-9

It really felt like we were in another country – even the fruit the was cut with an oriental twist. I was half expecting my towel to be shaped as swan in a sea of rose petals!

img_1886

After settling in and using every gadget possible, ee headed downstairs to the golden atrium and Jin Bar to meet Lucy Choi and admire her heavenly footwear collection Lucy Choi London.

Lucy Choi

Lucy (on the right) is as lovely as her shoes. She is so down earth and as a mother to two little boys she knows the importance of comfortable yet stylish shoes.

img_1940

I had my eye on these beauties. They were super comfy and I justified the contemplation that they could be worn with bare legs and black tights…  alas they were a tiny bit too big.

fullsizerender-12

Lucy will be at the Dorsett on Friday 12-6pm so do pop by and have a look at her collection and say hi!

After a few ‘Lucy Choi cocktails’, we headed to Pictures, the in-house Mediterranean restaurant that has recently  acquired a new chef.

We both had the Norwegian Crab & Prawn Cocktail (as we are so stuck in the 80’s). It had a brilliant kick and we found out it was due to a little brandy in the marie rose sauce. Yum!

We then had Ox Tail (him) and Salmon Fillets (moi) which were equally good.  The only slight disappointment was the pudding – we thought we had ordered a full on chocolate bomb but it was actually filled with mint ice cream… #firstworldproblem

The other restaurant Shikumen is Asian inspired that gives the feeling of ‘dining out’ when you are actually in the hotel.  It has a separate entrance. Apparently the Beijing Peking Duck carved at your table served with handmade pancakes is unbeatable!

This is a very slick hotel in the heart of West London with excellent transport links into the city and the West End and a stone’s throw from the more village feel of Notting Hill & Westbourne Grove. Due to its enormity and relaxed feel, it would be a convenient & easy hotel to stay with the kids too. They would also love the breakfast!

7049006_44_z

Dorsett have a Kidzania package which would be such a treat to do in the holidays.  You could go shopping whilst they ‘play adults’ and then you can use the best service ever – your bags get dropped to your room! How about that.

Thank you for reading and have a lovely day xx

Hush Laura Dress Was £49 Now £25

I bought this before the sale but it is slightly too big so isn’t as flattering as I had hoped. My recommendation with Hush is always to go a size lower as they are very generous with their sizing. (A size 12 drowns me and that’s saying something!)
