Operation Christmas Decoration Overhaul

When we put the Christmas decorations up last week, I (definitely only me – everyone else was thrilled) felt that our decorations needed a revamp with a few new bits and pieces. The collaboration of my husband and my decorations when we married, now 6 years on, have really seen their day. What started as a set, had ended up as only 1 or 2 and the ‘mulled wine infused with cinnamon scented Christmas candle’ is really in need of the bin…. So off I went on a cyber shop for a few pretty (for me) and fun (for the children) items to spruce up our countdown to the Big Day.

This is super smart and would be a great addition to any staircase. (Other than ones which children slide down!)

I plan to use these on the back of the buggy or on my handle bars. That’s if the boys don’t grab them first!

From experience with these Christmas scenes, they have the little ones transfixed for longer than most things. They rally are magical and John Lewis do a very engaging Ski Scene. Do it! Or buy it for Grandma & Grandpa’s house…

It’s mega important not to forget why we are ~~indulging~~ celebrating Christmas and this little Nativity Scene will help you explain the Christmas story.

Totally unnecessary but absolutely brilliant personalised plate (I am sure they can sign it from more than 1 child or you could just use your surname) and a great investment if your kiddies have a few more years believing.

The Night Before Christmas £5.24

We were given this book when our eldest was a baby and we have read it to them after we have done the mince pies and carrots for Santa and his Reindeers. It’s a sweet book and a tradition that seems to be working!

Caroline Hetterschijt : Four Fairies and a Prince

One of my favourite ‘go to’ children’s wear and accessory websites is Four Fairies and a Prince. It launched the website in October 2013 when Caroline met Pinja at NCT when they were both expecting their two oldest ‘fairies’.

They were both dreaming about starting their our own business and were ready for a new challenge. They share the love of children’s clothing from Scandinavia and the Netherlands. About a year before they launched the website they started setting it all up, designing the website, the buying etc. A few month before the launch Pinja gave birth to her second daughter and Caroline gave birth to number three. By October they were ready to go live with their first collection and they gave up their jobs!

“This is a tricky one, I think that I will find out in 10-15 years if I have done the right things. I try to stay close to myself (which does mean that I do lose my patience once in a while as well….) and raise them in loving and social family. There is a lot of advice out there that comes to you via books, friends, internet of just random people in the street that think they have solutions for everything. It is good to listen but do pick things that work for you, feel right and work for your children and family. I strongly believe that if you raise your children with confidence and love, more then half the job has been done!”

Bluebird Tea Company : Tea Mixologists

I am currently straddling two camps – coffee or tea. This is in part to the Bluebird Tea Company who have created delicious and interesting blends to rival the staunchest of coffee drinkers – me. I am nearly tipping over. The Pumpkin Spiced Latte and Bonfire Tea are delicious and perfect for the impending Halloween and Bonfire celebrations over the next couple of weeks.

Bluebird Tea Company that was set up Mike and Krisi, a couple from Brighton. After working in the tea industry (Krisi) and bumming (in his own words) around as a ski instructor (Mike) they both became incredibly passionate about how fun, innovative and versatile tea could be. They knew there was a gap in the market for a top quality, young, fresh tea company that could create fabulous flavours of loose teas that were fun, tasty and affordable.

Rather than selling straight teas such as darjeeling or Assam, they take teas and create exciting flavours by mixing them with a wide range of blending ingredients including herbs, flowers, fruits, caramels, chocoate and even cake sprinkles! They take popular tea and build up ingredients to create unique flavours.

Amelia Bainbridge : Auree Jewellery

Having had a jewellery sabbatical for the last five years – I haven’t trusted a little tot not to pull it out of my ear or off my neck – it is time I start adorning myself with something a little bit more glamorous than a lonely hair tie. I have just the place to start – Auree Jewellery.

Georgie Jones: Arambha

Georgie was living in Ethiopia with her husband and 2 small boys for 2 years. She was inspired by the rich culture, vibrant colours and century old techniques there, so she decided to look into working with some of the very talented local artisans. Through meeting various people along the way, she came across groups training and working with people from some of the poorest areas in and around Adidis Ababa and founded Arambha, which sells ethically made clothes, shoes and accessories.

The groups Georgie works with provide sustainable jobs and lifestyle for all their employees – they are housed, fed and their children are educated. They also pay a fair wage which is very rare in Ethiopia. Along side all of this, all the materials used for her Arambha collection are locally sourced, handmade using traditional techniques and equipment and where possible, recycled.

Not only are the children’s moccasins amazing, Georgie also has a fab collection of things for women too. I adore the women’s moccasins – uber cool and very comfy.
