7 Ways To Achieve Meghan’s Look

After the huge excitement of Meghan’s foray into the British establishment – Marks and Spencer’s that is, not Royal Family – when she wore THAT jumper, I thought I would write a post on what else Meghan would, could and should buy from Marks and Spencer’s current range.

Meghan Bell Sleeve Jumper

For those you who thought they had missed out on the black bell sleeve jumper – it is still in stock however only in size 16’s. If that’s your size, buy a piece of history before it sells out!

Bell sleeve

WHAT’S HER STYLE?

Ms Markle pretty much sticks to a simple colour palette of black, white, beige (camel, winter white you het the picture) and reds and burgundy’s.

She cleverly reflects her own colouring in her clothes choices and favours dark, bright and tonal clothing.

She likes to accentuate her waist and upsize one accessory per outfit whether handbag, glasses or scarf.

One thing she always wears in front of the camera is a dazzling smile!

COATS

Since the engagement, it is evident that she loves a smart coat, nipped in at the waist and big lapels.

MM

This Wool Rich Single Breasted Coat is only £79 and comes in dark green, burgundy and navy.  I wonder if the resemblance of the model to MM is a coincidence or cleverly thought through?

Jacket

THE CLASSIC SHIRT

Meghan looks fabulous in a classic white shirt. Well doesn’t everyone. If you wash it separately, you will get more than one wear out of it, as long as you avoid kids tea time.

MM White Shirt

The Pure Cotton Long Sleeve White Cotton Shirt from M and S is a classic shirt with no embroidery or exaggerated detail. At £35 a pop you could stock up.

White shirt

Whilst we are on the white shirt, blue jeans look – I can see Meghan in these Sculpt and Lift (not that she needs it!) Roma Rise Skinny Leg Jeans!  The cropped tight leg is a classic that will never go out of fashion.

Roma Rise

SCARVES

Meghan loves a chunky scarf and she usually keeps it the same colour as her coat. This is a great tactic for giving the illusion of length as the eye is drawn up and down and never horizontally by a change in colour.

MM

This brushed scarf is two tone is similar to the one Meghan wore in Wales and would go with both light and dark coats.

Scarf

HANDBAGS

Like the Queen, Meghan is a Tote girl through and through.  She isn’t scared of a bit of colour either.

Tote

I can see being drawn to this Green Faux Leather Tote Bag with Removable Clutch in the Spring, can’t you?

Green Tote

SHOES

Meghan loves an understated tonal heel with a few subtle details like these ones she wore for official engagement photos.

Engagement shoes

I think she would LOVE these Ginger Slingbacks (appropriately named) from Marks and Spencer new season. The bow is super cute and girly and the colour will suit her no doubt tanned legs when it gets warmer.

Ginger slingbacks

She also clearly likes the colour as per this cute hat she wore to church on Christmas day!

Ginger hat

Whilst we are onto hats, as she will be having to wear quite a few here on in, this hat below would be a versatile addition to her Royal wardrobe.

Dress up, dress down and even pull forward if you want to be a bit anonymous.

Winter hat

I love seeing Meghan mix Hollywood glamour with more regal traditional attire. One thing is for sure, she will always keep us guessing.

Next up will be THE DRESS. Who will design it, what style and shape, colours, flowers, bridesmaids oh I could on – and will in my next Meghan post!!

Have a happy Monday xx

Up Close with Georgie Coleridge Cole

If there is one lady in London who has her finger on the pulse, it is Georgie Coleridge Cole, Founder and Editor of SheerLuxe. For those of you who aren’t familiar with SheerLuxe (and I don’t imagine there are many of you) it is an online lifestyle magazine with an informative and fun podcastonline boutique, calendar of readers events (including a digital conference for budding entrepreneurs and a fashion day after LFW – can’t wait!), The Daily Brief (a daily email with an outline of things you need to know that are going on in the UK and the world), fashion updates and interior inspiration. Wow, I”m exhausted even writing that all and there is so much more that they cover too! (read here) Today though, I want to get to the brains behind this fantastic brand and get ‘up close’ with Georgie.

GCC

Let’s start with the one burning question we want to know – how DOES she do it…

What’s your secret to working whilst raising a family?

Help that’s consistent day to day or week to week. Whether that’s a really great nanny or a really good granny – you need regular committed help that is consistently there or you and your children don’t know whether you’re coming or going. Without it, you’re just making life even more chaotic and then everyone is left feeling crap.

What’s your advice for women with a business idea?

Do some research to ensure it’s a good product and a viable idea; then get on and do it.

What are you most excited about for SL at the moment?

The potential of different medias like video, podcasts and articles on a page and how they all work together to enhance your brand and engage with the reader. This autumn we relaunched our fly on the wall / behind the scenes youtube series and it has been really well received. It’s full on because we film all day every day but it’s also really different to what the competition are doing and adds another dimension in terms of how people connect with SheerLuxe. And also our podcast which we launched in April and has been really well received.

SL Podcast

What’s your fashion style?

Simple, timeless and functional. I tend to wear jeans most days or cigarette pants with flats (white trainers, ankle boots, pumps) and then a blouse of some sort and a jacket or knitwear. I drop my eldest two children at the school, go straight to work, often have to pop back to school for something and then back to the office so it has to be relatively easy. My wardrobe is almost entirely black, white, grey and blush. With a bit of navy and a touch of coral.

School Run Sport Luxe

Wonders never cease. There was a time when I wore leggings and trainers 3 times a week as I raced between pilates, going for wog (walk/jog – basically pavement scuffing) and cycling (5 minutes back and from Nursery drop.) Despite not wearing it *much now, I know what I like – head to toe black! However, the main focus of this post is to highlight a few statement pieces that you can buy at the moment – to make proud to do the school run in whilst also comfortable! Call it School Run Sport Luxe…

Whistles Colour Block Sweat £79

Grey always looks chic and as we have Spring in the not so distant future – this apple green will lift up your outfit (and your mood).

Whistles Colour Block

Oasis Hello Sweat £29

This stretch sweatshirt is a fun and comfortable sweater to throw on in the morning. You can get your little one practicing their letters too…

Oasis Hello

Ted Baker Cruise Panel Jacket £125

I love the funnel neck of this snazzy jacket when it is zipped up and the diagonal stripes makes it very flattering.

Ted Baker Panel Jacket

Samsoe & Samsoe Nostalgia Sweater £95

Understated whilst also keeping your toe in the ever-present trend of slogan sweats. They aren’t going away any time soon – they will just get wilder and wilder. (Have you seen Mango’s #feminist sweater?)

Samsoe

Whistles C’est la Vie Sweater £79

I love a red jumper and I think I can squeeze this into sportswear. It certainly bridges the gap.

C'est La Vie

Whistles Side Stripe £119

Side stripes are everywhere and for good reason, they are elongating and add a bit of detail to otherwise plain trousers.

Side Stripe

Whistles Relaxed Slub Jogger £79

Whistles is on fire this season and have jumped on the athleisure trend with gusto. Hats off to them. Love these tapered joggers.

Whistles Joggers

Ted Baker Logo Jogger £85

More tapered joggers but this time with my favourite detail of 2018. The striped edge. I need more of it. I need it in metallics, wide stripes, think stripes, on collars, on cuffs… Please let me know if you find any – it deserves a post of its own.

Tommy

Label Lab Contrast Panel Jogger £35

A more traditional side stripe which makes these joggers more versatile.

Biba Jungle Gym Legging £32

High waist, wide band, patterned front panel, mega print – tick tick tick tick. LOVE

They are called 247 for a reason – wear them all day – to the gym, supermarket and out int he evening. Classic & cool. Black and white. Yes.

These silver weave Tote’s are massive and will carry everything from book bags (the kids), towel, water bottles and your laptop.

Threads for The Boys

We have just done a monumental wardrobe weed. Delivering 3 bin liners to the charity shop was cathartic even for the hoarders amongst us.  The boys were up first as they have a lot of clothes that they don’t wear. This is a combination of being in school uniform most of the week and football kit most Saturdays but mainly because the clothes they do have don’t fit!

The Rules of the Recycling

  • If it hasn’t been worn for year (through all the seasons)
  • Doesn’t currently fit (yup if the waist was tight – it’s out)
  • Had any marks on it (although we kept a few ‘gardening clothes’)

The boys don’t give a hoot about what they wear. Ok, they might prefer to wear Arsenal over Bolton Wanderers (like my footy knowledge?) or a Ninjago T Shirt to a playdate but if I tell them they have to wear something else – as long as I help them get changed (!) there is usually no argument.

Until they complain, I will dress them in the same jumper for as long as possible but instead of putting them in matching jumpers with a picture on it -we are going sightly more grown up. (They are 7 and 5)

Trip

So, now there is a whole in their wardrobe, these are some ideas for my latest sweep – no ripped shirts and ankle skimming jeans!

Colour Block Hooded Gilet £20

An xtra layer under their coat or wear alone. I love the retro ankle of this – I am sure my brother had something similar 30 years ago!

Gilet

Rugby Shirt £12

Rugby shirts may be too preppy for some but if I want them to look relatively presentable it is a good option.

Rugby Shirt

Pure Cotton Navy Jumper £14

Very safe but very VERSATILE.

Navy Jumper

Trainers £20

I love the flash of green in these trainers (see what I have done?)

Old School Trainers

3 Pack of PJS £25

Absolutely bargain and if I went age 6 they could share a pack (pj bottoms are allowed to be short aren’t they?)

Pjs

Flip Flops £8

Not often I see a pair of flippies (as we for some reason call them…hmm) I like, but I do like these.

flip flops

Cotton Chinos £16

Find me a pair of jeans/trousers for age 7/8 that don’t have some weird stitching or detail on them and I will send you a case of caviar. It is pretty impossible to find in stock ‘normal’ trousers but I think I have done it (you have ti be quick, the simple stuff for boys sells out fast!)

img_2245

Riptop Trousers £12

Casual trousers for after school.

img_2238

Suede Chelsea Boots £20

Not sure they would choose these but less affected than loafers. I am on the bench. What do you think?

Chelsea Boots

Yes, yes I hear you – lots of blue. But hey, my boys suit blue it is the basis of their wardrobe which is what I am trying to establish since the clear out. It goes with pretty much everything!

Hope this has helped, have a good day and give your boys an extra hug today xx

17 Items On My Sale List That Will Last The Whole of 2018

I have skirted around the sales, only glancing at items that they have directly come into my eye line – namely through Facebook’s clever advertising or friends bargain buys on Instagram. However, kids are back at school and it’s time for me to go in, headfirst, with sharp elbows, a clear mind and a long term view.

These are my rules –

  • Will I wear it a minimum of 20 times?
  • If for now, will it also work next winter?
  • If for the summer, will I still like it in the Summer?

If I get three yes’s – it’s justified!

So, who is with me?

Now and Next Winter

Warehouse Animal Print Coat Was £96 Now £56

Whether leopard will be the hit next winter that it was this winter – in my eyes, it is a classic print and style that will last here on in. If you prefer a darker print, this classic fit is fabulous and would as good dressed down with jeans and trainers as it would dressed smartly.

i_5054223713280_50_20171220

Jigsaw Black Cashmere Roll Neck Was £199 Now £159

KG Ankle Boots

Spring

Gulp. Sold to the crazy lady with a pink fetish.

Gola Pink

i_261648635_00_20170228

Warehouse Cherry T Shirt Was £24 Now £15

One thing I do have, is the foresight to remember rushed mornings in the summer when you a dress is inappropriate and my T shirts are all dirty. I am going to hedge my bets and buy this believing that cherry’s will neither be too fashionable or so 2017. And those sleeves!!

Tres cute  with cropped tight blue jeans and red espadrilles.

i_5054223763957_50_20170831

Kanna Dallas Lace Up Espadrilles Were £95 Now £48

If you prefer to avoid laces in the summer (understandable) you can’t go wrong with these pale pink platform espadrilles. Not only will the pale colour elongate your ankle the extra height will lengthen your pins.

i_5045060815725_50_20170425

Hope this has helped draw out some gems in amongst the sea of sale items that are surrounding us at the moment.

Stay tuned, there is more to come…

Have a great day

Three Items That Will Smarten You Up

One of my preferred past times is checking out the ‘New In’ sections of websites. It is that feeling of finding out something first. Before the masses. If you haven’t tried it before, I highly recommend it. (Said only slightly tongue in cheek…)  In this case, the masses will find out, so I wanted to share it with you whilst they are still trawling though the sale rails. Let’s skip that topic (for now) and check out three items Marks and Spencer have pulled out the bag in their ‘New In’ section that will smarten you up in January.

Oh and did I mention. They have every size. AT THE MOMENT.

Raspberry Open Front Coat £49.50

The price. Low. The cut. thumbs up. Good length. But AWESOME colour. Even if this colour doesn’t scientifically suit you (I studied colour analysis and it really is scientific – one day I will get around to sharing it or even better doing it again!)it is so pretty and feminine and DIFFERENT.

Rasberry Coat

Cotton Rich A Line Skirt With Belt £45

Even looking at the skirt makes me feel slim. I love the wide built-in belt. The colour is also versatile.  Heels, boots or even trainers (if you are cool enough to pull THAT look off)

Wool Skirt

Wool Blend Single Breasted Blazer £99

I am actually going to make sure I buy this before I publish this post as it would be just my luck that it sells out as quickly as I think it will. I have been looking for a blazer to ‘smarten me up’ (as the artful dodger would say) and I think this is it. Nipped in waist. Slight exaggerated shoulders (although 2018 his set to be a mass return to shoulder pads and massive puff sleeves so maybe its a bit subtle!)

wool blend

Gems aren’t they.

I am so over my pjs, frizzy hair, eating chocolate for breakfast. Yes it was nice. It was fun. But I can’t wait to get my nails done and pull onside new threads. And this blazer it will be!

How To Update The Little Black Dress

Unless you are a fashion blogger, stylist or celebrity, no  one has time to think out of the box when it comes what to wear on 31st December, so let’s get back to basics and see what we can do with the LBD.

Audrey

Everyone has one in their cupboard. I am going the mesh route like the LBD icon, Audrey Hepburn above.   Don’t worry if the only LBD in your wardrobe is a bodycon (i’m impressed) or velvet – skip down to how to accessorise…

For those on the hunt – here are some ideas.

Monsoon Rene Lace Dress £89

i_5045461275425_50_20170927

Biba Velvet Sleeveless Mesh Dress £119

i_273108845_00_20170901-2

Mela Lace Overlay Dress £45

i_5052011434850_50_20171115

Karen Millen Lace Pencil Dress £155

i_5054236245747_50_20171103

Use your LBD as a basic. A block of colour to flatter all shapes.

If black isn’t one of ‘your colours’, avoid high necks and add necklace that does suit you.

But not a beaded necklace. Unless you want to look like a hippy.

The key not to looking fuddy duddy in a LBD is update your accessories.

Leave the diamond studs and black court shoes. Just NO.

Kate Spade has some fabulous jewellery that will instantly make you look stylish and on trend = younger.

A double stranded or long necklace is a good starting point.

Long Chain Necklace £60

Chain Necklace

This cuff is gorgeous and comes in lots of different colours if you want to add a dash of colour. I also love the green one.

Cuff £50

Kate Spade Cuff

If you fancy the green theme – a bit more original than black or gold (as safe and lovely as it is) and less cliched than red – these green tassel earrings would look fab.

Tassel Earrings

Just don’t wear earrings, necklace and bracelet all at once. Choose 2/3.

Shoes. The bain of my life.  Now well into my thirties (!) they have to be comfortable. They have to be flattering. They have to be considered. I can’t bring myself to resort to my black suede court shoes that were my staple in my twenties.

Personally, for me – it is all about the shboots. I made that up.

They are really called shoe boots.

They tick all the above – comfortable (no going over on your ankle as they support nut not in an orthopaedic way!) and if you match the colour of your boots with your tights – very elongating.

As it is winter, it is black tights for me, but if you have just got back from a spray tan or even better, some winter sun, get those pins out by all means.

Office Shoe Boots £79

Shoe Boots

Last but not least, a little clutch. Not a cliche glitter clutch though!!! Obviously it will depend on what dress you are wearing, but I love the look of this one from Guess (£55)

Guess Clutch

Have a fabulous Christmas (some outfit inspo here) and I will see you on the other side!

Lots of love

Warwick Castle : An Educational Christmas Outing

A visit to a castle conjures up school outings, tours of the castle room by room and if you are lucky a token whip around the hedge maze. When we were asked to visit Warwick Castle with* Joules Clothing, we decided to give it a go as both boys have recently had Castles as their class topic.

Warwick Castle

Situated above Banbury and below Coventry, it was an easy journey along the M40.  The castle is hidden until you are through the gates.

Joules Coat

It is truly magnificent from the outside but only when you go over the draw bridge do realise the enormity of it.

img_1665

I felt the interiors were much more accessible than a lot of castles with few barriers and wax like assistants growing at you if you go too near the four-poster bed. As it is run by Merlin Entertainments who also have Seaworld and Chessington to their name, they have made it child friendly and interactive.

img_1642

Sadly as it was mid winter, the maze and adventure playground were closed. However, Christmas at The Castle is on till 31st December.

img_1668

The story time with Santa was enchanting and the visit to the Princess in the tower was a treat for little girls.

Father Christmas at Warwick castle

My highlight other than using the castle as an adventure playground (you can navigate your way around the whole castle along the top, weaving through small passages and up and down-arrow staircases.

img_1733

Be warned if you suffer from vertigo though – lots of see through walk ways. The 4 year old wasn’t too delighted by the narrow spaces so managed to wrangle being carried around.

img_1676

All this exercise built up a bit of an appetite and given a choice between the sit down courtyard restaurant and the all you can eat pasta and pizza buffet – yup you guessed it – we went for the latter and were pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was for only £12 per adult and £6 for a child.

Peacocks

The highlight of the day was the Time Tower.

Cauldron

It consisted of an interactive video taking you through the history of Warwick Castle, the battles and the families that resided there. Its was a great brush up on Common Entrance history!

img_1682

Despite the freezing temperatures, we were all kept warm with our new Joules coats.  They are very well made, well insulated, comfortable and good shapes.

Here they are…

Belmont Padded Coat £59

Belmont

Noah Parka Jacket £69

Noah Coat

Farrington Jacket Was £99 Now £59

Farrington

I chose the Gosling Padded Coat due to the curve at the bottom and the flattering lines at the back.

Gosling Padded Coat

Sadly the red is sold out but there are still some Burgundy, Navy and Caramel left.

Gosling Caramel

H’s coat is also sold out but I love the Stafford Marine Navy Quilted Jacket as a smart alternative.  (They also do a mens version!)

joules_stafford

When I am next on the hunt for a proper winter coat I will definitely head over to Joules. The selection is vast and you know everyone will be properly insulated!!

PS. I have added these to my basket, as they aren’t just good at coats!

The Mens Crew Neck Jumpers £49 are very smart.

This Navy Boys Rugby Shirt is unbelievably in the sale!

I love this Pincord Dress – very original.

What do you think?

This is not a sponsored post however entrance to Warwick Castle and the jackets from Joules were gifted.
