School Run Style : Star Trainers

One way to finish off an outfit you threw on in the dark and before coffee is with some star trainers. There are quite a few around at the moment but I don’t see that many people in them – so now is a good time to funk up your feet and grab a pair. You don’t have to break the bank – there are some great ones for £25 but am starting with the high end…

Which ones do you fancy?

Gucci Ace Star £450

Would you? These are too flashy for me but I can admire from afar!

TLM Monthly Edit

TLM Monthly Edit : August 2017

Who would think the quietest working month of the year would be so flipping packed full of new products and services! There is no sympathy for parents who are herding wild children around the country for the best of 6 weeks. We are expected to reply within 3 days and then if we agree to a collaboration – to have it done within a week. Oh no, no, no. Last year I ‘took’ August off, because I could but now I have tenancies with a few brands and have to cover my quota per month. Not that I mind. Any excuse to pursue the world-wide web is fine in my opinion (not so much in my families – but hey!

So, what have I got to report this month?  There are a lot of new apps to make your life easier!!

First off however, I have to give a mention to Ling’s Meadow, an eco-friendly camp site that we stayed in Suffolk for a few nights. Basically, we hired a ready put up bell tent and were supplied with sheets, fire, camp fire equipment to make us novices enjoy the experience whilst believing we were really hard-core camping.

img_7442

We weren’t, but I don’t care. It was perfect for and enabled the adults to relax whilst the kids ran off.

img_7298

That’s all you want isn’t it!

Qure is a new website that delivers a Dr to your door for a one off fee £70. They guarantee to be there within 2 hours and only it includes a 20 minute consultation. Currently covers SW1 and South West London. Definitely an app to download so it is at your fingertips.

Another super useful website is Fantastic Services. Covering cleaning, repairs and exteriors, you can book in 30 seconds and have someone out the next day (in uniform!) We had what looked like the Super Mario Brothers out to help us in the garden and they worked non stop and didn’t finish until the job was finished, over their allotted time. You can also download the Go Fantastic app on IOS or Android. Highly recommend.

You know those times during the school holidays where you don’t know who is around, who is on holiday so you don’t bother contacting anyone? Well, now there is an app that you can get all your friends to download and can put what you are up to and does anyone else want to join. Genius!!!!!! Download Pal and give it a go!

A lovely mum at nursery, Gemma, who is a personal trainer in SW London, has set up Bespoke Body Plan. She creates individual training programs based on a Dynamic Pilates approach. Get in contact to secure some sessions this September! If she is anything to go by, by Christmas you will be the belle of the ball!

I have been on the hunt for a smart navy coat with a turned up collar (ever since watching Nordic Noir wear this look is a staple) and have finally found it on Esprit for £99. I love the contrast collar and pocket. The only hard thing to decide is whether to go burgundy, pale grey or navy blue!!

I am a subscriber of School Notices which is basically like a word of mouth Gumtree and you sign-up through your kid’s school (this is worth a look in itself) however they drew my attention to a Nuvet which is a washable sheetless duvet.

If you have an aversion to boys in Breton and appliqué, British designed children swear brand Angels and Rockets is for you.  My youngest son has a Rocket sweat and jeans from them and he looks like an absolute dude.

Check out Instagram to see him in action!

We took Dr Wills BBQ and Tomato sauce camping and it was a great hit. They didn’t notice that it was ‘healthy’ i.e. no sugar or anything disguised as it. You can actually buy it online so why not support a small start-up and give them a go – they are delicious and the bottle are gorgeous!

So, that’s all folks. Oh, and if you are feeling slightly fried, Caudalie Beauty Elixir has just reached its 20 year anniversary and it’s definitely worth a spritz post shower to shake you into the day – like spraying gorgeous caffeine on your face but it actually moisturises!

Good luck with the lost week of the holidays – remember – finish well!!! and buy yourself some earrings – these have just landed on TLM Edit and I am home ready to send them out asap!!

Autumn ‘Instagram’ Dresses

Each season, a few key pieces from the high street become major Instagram hits.  This happens by a few key bloggers waxing lyrical about them (and looking pretty lush too).  I have just been given the heads up that Marks and Spencer have quietly launched their new Autumn collection online and there are some absolute gems I have to tell you about before anyone else does (and they fly off the rails in your size!)

I have a sneaky suspicion that these dresses below will be part of the action.  Watch this space!

Printed Tie Dyed Flared Sleeve Mini Dress £35

If this doesn’t get you excited about a new Autumn wardrobe – I am not sure what will! The blue is striking and the pattern is very Rixo dahhhling (if you don’t know Rixo, trust me it’s a good thing to have a dress that looks like one of theirs!)

Electric Blue Dress

Mesh Flared Sleeve Midi Dress £49.50

Imagine finding a dress for the ‘silly season’ before you actually had to. Imagine nailing it in August. Just imagine. And you could with this one! Do it!

navy flared dress

Floral Lace Gathered Hem Slip Dress £79

Dress up, dress down, this slip dress that comes in 3 other colours (emerald green, plum and deep red) would look just as good with tights, bikers and a denim/leather jacket as it would with a kimono and heels in the evening. LOVE. But which colour… red is the colour of next season but I have a feeling the black will go first!

sd_01_t42_7008_y0_x_ec_90

Tea Dress £19.50

I want sure whether to add this as it doesn’t look great in this pic but if you are a fan of the tea dress, but want something slightly more covered up for Autumn this is a great next step and the model looks fab in it! Love it with her trainers.

Floral Dress

So, what do you think? Agree or think I am way off the mark? I think bravo Marks and Spencer and cant wait to investigate what other goodies you have in store. Here is a little taster…

Star Cashmere Jumper £109

sd_01_t38_3352_zz_x_ec_90

Shall we squeal now or later? In the words of our favourite cheesy movie star ‘i’ll be back!’

School Run Style : Cool T Shirts

As the start of school is on the horizon, it turns our thoughts away from flamingos and espadrilles towards something a little more finished.  However, I do think one of the healthiest looking times of the year is in September so lets show it off! The hair has been highlighted, the skin sun kissed and hopefully the probability of getting into a swimsuit for two months has been over shadowing what you put in your trap hole.

So, let’s look at a few pieces that will enhance this carefree look, whilst also making you feel put together. I am thinking pale. Thinking T Shirts.  Then over the coming months you can throw on a jacket, cardigan or a kimono.  Maison De Nimes, a new brand at House of Fraser is the perfect brand to kick off School Run Style with!

Wanderlust T Shirt £25

Speaks for it self.

Wanderlust T Shirt

Star Embroidery Blouse £45

Pretty and feminine and the stars make it quite Christmassy too!

Star T

Sunday T £25

We can dream and although not reality, this will give you a cool Sunday feeling.

Sunday T

Blush T with Rib Trim £39

Great with blue jeans and silver arm candy.

i_270369442_00_20170630

Birch Stripe Curve Hem Top £25

I love the curve hem of this T shirt. No builders bum here…

Curve Hem Top

Vintage Trim T £35

I love the fitted structure of this top and the perforated lines draw the eye down but stop before you tummy.

I am so excited about delving into school run style, so keep posted! xx

The Investment Boot With Attitude

Ok, it seems appropriate that I delve into the excitement of next season with a little look at what is number one on my buy list – the leopard print boot. I must admit that when I spied them on  a few people last year, they didn’t incite that much envy – just admiration that they had the guts do it. Now, as my feet are covered in pop socks and trainers for the first time in 6 weeks – I can turn my head to what will be covering my trotters over the next few months and I think a pair of leopard prints is going to be my part of my repertoire!

If you aren’t sure either, check out the inspo I took from Pinterest.

My default would be black jeans, but this shows that you really can dress them down with blue jeans.

leopard boots

Block heel and black jeans. Voila.

leopard boots

More dressy and even more gorgeous.

I am on the hunt for some dark grey jeans similar to the below – as think they bridge the gap between day and evening perfectly. And look how well they go with the leopard boots!

So, if you are inspired and want to take the plunge, I urge you to hop not he bandwagon quickly as I guarantee some of the more popular/reasonably proved brands wont have your size!

Do these turn you on or turn you off?

Right, now I am off to grab my mac and have one last look around the fab shops in Burnham Market. I bought little beach shoes from Joules for £3 and there is an Isabel Marant skirt in Anna’s! xx

A Versatile Dress To Take You From Now Until Winter

Disclosure. I am not a professional fashion blogger. I am not even a fashion blogger although I do blog about fashion. I do not claim to bring you new trends and show you how to look stylish. But when I get inspiration, I do want to share it which I have done on some fashion posts in the last couple of years.  One style of post I have never done is a spotlight on one particular item. It is usually a few of my favourite items from one brand. However, I feel this dress warrants its own time in the limelight.

It’s been around before and it will continue to crop up in years to come but there is a reason its a staple in most women’s wardrobes (or should be) as it is versatile, classic and flattering.

SUMMER STYLING

Wear with flip flops or canvas pumps for a casual daytime look and then whack on some wedge heels and statement jewellery for the evening.

WINTER STYLING

Thick black nylons, chunky boots and a biker jacket…  (oooh gets me quite excited!)

So I have gone advanced party and bought the Marks and Spencer Denim Long Sleeve Shirt Dress for £39. It isn’t one of their cheapest pieces but I know with that reasonable price tag it will be good fabric and last the distance.

Here is what it looks like on the model…

and here is what it looks like on little old me (obv not that little and not THAT old)

GREAT LENGTH

If you look closely enough, I am actually wearing skinny jeans with it. Only because i was cold, Im not a double denim fan! (Although I think it works quite well..) The length works for bare legs whilst still being able to bend over and also leather leggings if you pulled the dress up over the belt a little bit (or wore it open like a coat – now that’s a thought)

img_6703

GOOD ARRANGEMENT OF BUTTONS

This might sound quite specific, but quite annoying when you were a shirt (dress) and opening the second button makes you look like a stripper. Not here. It is sexy and decent.

img_6705

FLATTERING POCKETS

I don’t know why, but they work and make you feel quite pert!

img_6712

WELL PLACED BELT

It falls at the smallest size of your was it which is always a good thing. Nuff said.

img_6713

So, are you keen or will you pass? If you are the former – go ahead and buy it here… Let me know!

Family Life

8 Stereotypical School Gate Mums

So, we have been away from the school gates for a few weeks now. Whether you are moving up a year (notice I say ‘you’) or changing schools, it is nice to have to some time away from the routine. I have been meaning to do a post on different types of school gate mums for a while.  Although my oldest is only 7 – having done 3 different nurseries and 2 different schools in London in that time, I have experienced lots of types.

8 Different Types

‘Competitive’ Mum

Manages to shoes horn 2 year old little Timmy’s achievements into the first two minutes of seeing you on Monday morning. Wow, that is amazing that he can get into your bed without any help?’ you respond feigning enthusiasm.

She will also remind you about school events and what’s going on in the community. ‘Oh didn’t you know’ but despite being a busy body, she would never volunteer to be class rep. Farrrrr too busy for that!

Judgemental Mum

‘Knows Everyone’ Mum

She smiles at everyone and knows most people’s names. Chats to the care takers, has inner jokes and is on first name terms with the teachers. This is because she is on her 4th kid at the school and it is literally a second home.

Don’t ask her a question about uniform or homework though.

She will just laugh at you.

‘Hectic.com’ Mum

Usually upbeat as she is juggling her wild children but can lose it in a moments notice so best to avoid eye contact when you see the red mist descending.

Chucks wotsits at her kids in the vain hope that this will shut them up but once the playground has emptied she notices that they are littered all over the ground.

Pretends it was nothing to do with her.

Hectic Mum

‘Cool as a Cucumber’ Mum

Usually a mother of daughters, she can wear expensive sunglasses as she knows that they won’t get knocked off with a straying ball.

She brings homemade snacks with her (involving oats) and never breaks a sweat or loses her cool.

‘Staunch Wingwoman’ Mum

The one you migrate to when there are a sea of mums and you just need to stand and not make that inevitable light conversation.

Your saving grace.

You don’t mind when their kids hoover all your snacks you have saved for your oldest.

If you don’t have one or two of these, beg borrow or steel.

Or be like ‘Knows Everyone’ Mum so you give yourself a chance.

‘Clique’ Mum

Every school has them at the gate or in the playground (or worse at a class party!)

No matter how much they smile and greet you, they give you the shivers as you know when your back is turned they are probably discussing some aspect of you or other mothers.

They can’t stand on their own and if they are and strike up conversation with you, hold it lightly because as soon as their besties are there it will be see ya later!

Clique Mums

‘Serious Job’ Mum

Usually the nicest mum in the playground who is over compensating for all the times she isn’t there.

She doesn’t have a kitchen table job (guilty)

She is full-time and no messing.

Friendly, kind and always keen to organise a play date.

Working Mum

‘Potential Bestie’ Mum

You admire her from afar, you share the same sense of humour when you do briefly chat.

However, your paths don’t cross so you just have to pray that when the classes are mixed next year that your kids will be in the same class.

What type are you and have I missed type? I am a mixture of 1 and 2 but how I dream to be like number 3.

Dropping 3 kids at the same time which is what I will do be doing next term, means that dream is looking doubtful!!

Holiday Style : Packing with Panache

I don’t imagine you are as chaotic as me when it comes to packing. After tying up loose ends on here (The London Mummy), ‘training’ my lovely mother how to send out parcels from TLM Edit orders (thank you Mum!), co-hosting hubby’s 40th birthday camping party, moving house,  visiting my poorly father, saying au revoir to my Brazilian bound brother and starting a new partnership with the wonderful House of Fraser (which I am very excited about!) this last month has been rather hectic.

Anyway, with all that going on, you may see why I have come on a summer holiday and packed far too may sweatshirts and jeans, forgot my swimming costume, totally ignored the fact I may like to wear some different jewellery (all left in a brown box) and generally feel unprepared.

(If you are wondering why I am still doing TLM whilst all this is going on – it’s because I find it relaxing and helps me switch off…ok?)

So, back to the point – what to pack for a summer holiday…

Swimming Costume. Black is always a good option. I love this Kenneth Cole Crochet Swimsuit £85 as it covers you up but isn’t too mumsy.

Kenneth Cole

Sunglasses. It has to be pink this summer. These Ray Ban Pink Gold £161 are high on my wishlist!

ray ban

So foot wear. These, below, are the ‘new’ espadrilles. Espadrille Trainers innit.

And, if you really want to be in there – get ones with a ‘flatform’.

I cannot believe these puppies are on sale for £25 and have every size available. I am going to beat you to it! The colour and added height will take your legs up to the sky!

Dune Flatforms £25

dune flatforms

I think flip flops are a bit like marmite. But, I love them as they are practical etc. This slim style from Havianas are a bit more feminine and with the bright orange on tanned feet (!) they would look rather lovely!

Havainas Slim Flip Flop £26

flip flops

You definitely need some relaxed clothes for the morning before you think about what you are going to wear.

You want to get passed breakfast and not have to change, My default are beach trousers to spare fellow diners my white pins and a t shirt. This sounds rather frumpy but let me introduce you to these…

Maison De Nîmes Beach Trousers £26

Versatile and flattering. Get a pair!

beach trousers

Sugarhill Boutique Star Collar T Shirt £26

I really believe you cant have enough T Shirts on holiday. If only I had known! ha.
