Lumitrix: Photographic Prints For Your Wall

Lumitrix’s mission is to offer the very best in photographic talent.  They want people to be able to buy beautiful photographs for a price that is accessible and without having to go through a traditional gallery. They represent a carefully curated gallery of images that is growing all the time – signing new photographers with a wide range of subject matter for example, landscapes, horses, wildlife and cars. I particularly love this snap of a surfboard on Bondi Beach.

Lumitrix’s founder, Cara Connell, is a freelance photographer herself.  Struck by how hard it is to break into the fine art photography market, Cara launched Lumitrix in 2013 to give talented photographers a new platform for their work. Lumitrix now represents photographers from around the world and is always searching for new talent. Some of their photographers are just starting out, and use Lumitrix as a springboard for their career. Others are already well-established and see Lumitrix as a great way to get more exposure for their work.

They sidestep a lot of the baffling issues that traditionally surround fine art photography by using a set pricing structure where the number of editions available is determined by the print size. The diffusion line, Lumiprints, offers our customers a more affordable entry point for our images (£50 each)

It is a clear website and very easy to navigate. It is the extensive and stylish choice of photograph’s that makes it difficult to decide!

Clip ‘n Climb: Indoor Climbing Adventure

Clip n’ Climb does exactly what it says on the tin. You get clipped in to a harness and according to your age and experience are shown a wall in which is suitable to climb and then left to your own devices. The introduction made my 4 year old feel so at ease that he sailed up the wall – and came back down – with no problems, only to be eager to do it again and again until his hour had expired.

H going up!

H coming down!

For the more intrepid there is a huge wall and vertical slide!

It is a genius idea set in a huge warehouse of the New Kings Road in Chelsea. It has been so successful, the owners are considering starting a snow dome for indoor skiing next door. Why hadn’t I tried Clip n’ Climb before? Because I didn’t fancy it – but now we are converts, I might even have my own party there!

Turner Pocock & Cazelet: Anyone For Cricket?

When we decorated our house, I gave my husband carte blanche to decorate one room as he pleased – the downstairs loo. As a huge cricket fan, I had book marked some wallpaper before we had even moved in, as I knew that having a Cricket themed wallpaper would show a deep expression of my love. As predicted, he loved it straight away and promptly put all his Cricketing memorabilia on the walls – a little too much for my liking, but I wasn’t going to interfere.

The wallpaper is designed by the extremely talented Catherine Cazelet and she has collaborated with Turner and Pocock and to bring a wonderful range of wallpaper. If Cricket isn’t your thing, they also do Tennis!

Annie Sloan: Leading The Paint Revolution

Our recent visit to my folks this Easter started with my divine and enthusiastic mother showing me all the things she had painted and affected with Annie Sloan paint. She had brought bring back to life items that were beginning to look worn and outdated and changed the look of the house. It looked great and our bedroom looked like an interior designed hotel. The ease (you only need 1 coat), the chalky texture and subtle colour’s, make this paint a no brainer. I highly recommend it.

Tinker and Belle: Beautiful Children’s Clothes

Gabrielle Murray, a delightful mother of 2, based in Edinburgh, started up Tinker and Belle as she couldn’t find ‘clothes that I liked; which were simple in shape, free of cartoon characters, branding and NOT PINK.’

She has rapidly gone from strength to strength and is so in demand she can hardly keep up.  Her clothes are beautiful and made to an exceptionally high standard. Even the packaging which they arrive in, is too good to open!

Love Languages: What Makes Your Child Tick

I have read a few parenting books.  Actually, if I am honest, I have started a few parenting books but once I have got the gist of them, they are confined to the book shelf. One book though that has been particularly helpful is ‘The 5 Love Languages of Children’ by G Chapman and R Campbell.

In a nutshell, ‘The 5 Love Languages’ are –

  • Acts of Service
  • Words of Affirmation
  • Quality Time
  • Physical Touch
  • Gifts

Where we go wrong, is that we show our love towards our children in the way that we feel loved. For example, the ‘Love Language’ I like to receive is Words of Affirmation (my husband jokes that I am all of them!) so I am always encouraging my children and telling them how much I love them. However, I think they know this so don’t feel particularly loved when i say it – they like to see it in action. The oldest would prefer Presents (funny that) and the middle, Quality time. This also works with your other half and friends.

I thoroughly recommend you buy a copy and work out who is what.

Please order through your local bookstore and keep small book shops alive!
