Making Better Videos With Your iPad or Iphone

The majority of the time, when I am contacted by PR’s – they ask for my online video presence (aka vlogging – no, it is not some form of whipping).  This is pretty awks as I don’t really have one!  Anyone who knows who the world of social  media, will know that times are changing and that it is important to have a strong online video presence – especially if you want to keep up with the youngsters.  I have a YouTube channel, from which I occasionally upload an amateur clip to, but I am really keen to learn how to video and edit videos so they look a bit more professional.

Luckily, I have found a fantastic company to help me and will be going along to their course on Tuesday evening! In the meantime, let me tell you a bit about them!

The Quick Brown Fox is a growing video production company with a real love for the carefully crafted moving image.  Whether you are a school, a small business, want to start a podcast, product demo or an online tutorial – they can help you.

From their south-west London base, husband and wife team Karina and Victor offer their clients over 15 years of filmmaking and video editing experience combined with creative backgrounds in Architecture and Sound Design.

Their social media savvy team can also help put your business on the map with engaging video content.

We proudly help businesses and organisations tell their story in a captivating way that captures their audience imagination. Whatever the size of a project, there’s no need to be nervous about having our filming crew over.

After running his own video production studio in our native Venezuela for over eight years, Victor decided to relocated to London in 2010 to finish his masters in audio engineering.

Here, we were soon married and when we had our second daughter, we soon realised our demanding jobs were no longer sustainable. We both worked long hours – Victor as a sound engineer, and me as an architectural design consultant. Unable to see enough of their girls, they decided to create a business that would provide that all-important work-life balance.

Since they setup as TQBF in Summer 2014, they have created 100s of videos for private clients as well as for some of the best known brands: Facebook, SuperDrug, TopShop, Bobux, Dazzle & Fizz, Fetcham Park, SWL.TV, Scholastic UK, Made In Me, Urban Explorer, SamLabs, Cakes By Robin, Gee Brothers Bespoke Printers, Mothers Meetings, The Modern Nursery, AllByMama, BKD, London Mothers Club, Kensington Mums and many many more.

Leone, who set up The Natural Living Company this year, supports local enterprises by selling a wonderful selection of eco-friendly beauty and natural homeware products.  She has always loved fashion, cosmetics and interior design and became aware that sustainable and eco-friendly products were few and far between.

me

I wanted to see better quality products on the market but most importantly because there is a need for these types of products to sustain the beautiful world we live in.

The Natural Living Company aims to show through it’s carefully curated collation of goods that natural, sustainable products from British enterprises can be better, higher quality and more beautiful than their high street counterparts.

It certainly achieves that….  (and don’t forget to check out her 5 Favourites at the bottom – they are awesome!!)

Anyway, here are my top picks from her beautiful website!

Leone’s Favourites

Shop : I love going for a wonder around the shop at Petersham Nurseries. They have such beautiful antique furniture and chandeliers, some occasional skin care products and of course the most beautiful plants and plant pots! I could spend hours and a lot of money there if I’m not careful!

Website :  I love reading blogs, I’m really into The Londoner and Pretty Hungry Me for their amazing post on new restaurants and to lust over their latest travels. I have also recently discovered Yoli & Otis who are an Australian kids clothing company with beautiful such a beautiful blog!.

Restaurant :

“I have been slowly going vegetarian over the past couple of years so I always look forward to a meal at Mildreds where nothing on the menu is off limits – everything is utterly delicious.

I also love lusting over anything by Jo Rogers, Skye McAlpine, the lovely Lucy and Jemima of Tart London and Meg & Issy of The Curious Pear on Instagram. All the recipes I’ve tried have been so straight forward and flavoursome.”

Hotel :

“It has got to be the Soho House. I love their farmhouse in Oxfordshire, especially during a less crowded weekday stay. Barnsley House in the Cotswolds is also such a treat!”

Holiday Destination :

“My family is from Cape Town, so going to visit never gets old- it really feels like a second home to me and I never tire of the stunning scenery and gorgeous weather.

We’ve had a holiday house in Harlyn Bay, Cornwall since I was born so that part of the country holds many sweet (and often hilarious) family memories of spending scorching summer days on the beach and terribly wet summer days cycling up endless hills or being dragged on coastal walks, all memories we look back on with fondness though!

Next on my bucket list are South America, Kenya, India and South Korea…”

Parenting Tip :

“Although not a mother myself, growing up in a large family (I’m the second youngest of six) I’ve had plenty of experience with kids of all ages. Firstly, always carry a spare change of clothes (or two) and a muslin.

Secondly, try not to compare yourself to other parents. I think it’s so easy to compare in an era of social media, but we should be using this platform instead to educate and encourage each other.”

Move To Surrey with Property Potential

‘So, is it time to ‘move out?’ Go to the sprawling countryside. Somewhere bigger? We will have to compromise somewhere.  Large property, smaller garden. No, massive garden and smaller house? Hmmm. Not sure. Perhaps in a country village, perhaps on the outskirts of a town.  Ok, let’s leave that. What’s our budget? Eek. What can we even get for that? You want old but I don’t want anything that is going fall down on me! And we haven’t even registered for schools!! Are there any schools that are decent in that area (that we don’t even know have any houses for sale) and first and foremost we need to check that they actually have places! ‘

Sound familiar? If you have ever discussed the BIG MOVE with your other half, it is enough to make you want to go and inhale that familiar London pollution.

Anyway, help is at hand. I have a couple lovely ladies who will be able to give you much needed clarity, information & insider knowledge on this very subject!

Maranda and Jen are professional home search consultants who run Property Potential Surrey  specialising in helping families moving to the area to find their dream family home.

We cover Surrey, North Hampshire and West Sussex.

Many of their clients focus on the areas around Farnham, Guildford, Godalming and Haslemere as they are lovely towns surrounded by rolling countryside, but it’s easily accessible back into London.

The process starts with them meeting prospective clients to really get to grips with what they’re after from commuting needs to schools to the style of house that they prefer.

FAMILY LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

Based on their needs, they take them on an orientation tour of the areas that they think would work best for them. During the tour they will share lots of local information such as best nurseries, schools, pubs, restaurants, shops, the best stations to commute from etc. and will send them home armed with the knowledge that would normally take years of living locally to gain.

Once they have narrowed down the search area we then hit the ground running leaving no stone unturned to get into the very best properties, more often than not before they hit the open market.

surrey-pic-2

Due to their excellent relationship with local estate agents, they also get access to those houses being marketed ‘quietly’ which will never come onto the open market. This gives their clients a competitive edge over other buyers. Once they’ve found the right house, they then work with the estate agents to negotiate the best possible price for their clients.

surrey-pic-4

Once the deal is done, they act as house moving ‘concierge’, and can organise surveyors, removals quotes and get quotes from other professional services. After their clients move in they don’t just disappear but are at the end of the phone to offer advice and information on the local area.

FAMILY LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

MEET THEM YOURSELF IN LONDON!

Maranda and Jen are setting up shop in South West London on Friday 3rd March to meet anyone who would like to explore the possibility of moving to Surrey.

What you can expect to learn –

House style:

“We have a special presentation, which helps clients think about house styles, what the love and hate about different houses. It is amazing how often a client hasn’t quite decided what they are looking for and depending on what they like, we know where you are most likely to find that style of house.”

House prices:

“Even if they are unsure of their end budget, we can give them an idea of where you are most likely to get what you want for your money.”

The area:

“We will have a huge map and can discuss the area in general. Talking though villages they may have heard of and what is available in different areas, from schools, to nurseries, to cafes to shops”

Travel:

“We will have commuting timetables and discuss best stations to commute from”

Schools:

“We will have a list of all the schools in the area and will provide them with a list of the next open mornings”

The meeting is strictly confidential and absolutely no pressure to use their services (although they are so nice, I am thinking I want to up sticks and move to the country, just so I can have them look after me!)

Call them to book a time!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They met in the way that many of us meet new friends when we have young children – at a local toddler group.

It was (and still is) a real social hub for local mums with little ones and it’s where we met the ladies who have gone on to be our great friends still today.

FAMILY LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

When our youngest children started school we, like many mums, wanted to go back to work but in a more flexible way where we could be our own boss. I built my own house when I moved into the village six years ago and developed a real passion for property. I also found that I was informally advising many friends and friends of friends about the area and what it’s like to live around here. I was also informally keeping an eye out for properties for them.

Jen and Maranda got talking about their future plans and decided that it would have been invaluable, when they had moved a few years earlier, to have had somebody to hold their hand through the entire process – from finding the dream family home to being able to pass on the local knowledge that can only be gained from living and breathing an area for a number of years.

This seed of an idea then snowballed into an actual business which they’ve been running successfully now for nearly four years. They both have a background in PR and marketing which really helped to promote their business and get it off the ground.

I can see why. When I spoke to them it was like speaking old friends.  What a dynamic duo!

Their Favourite’s

Website: Houzz which is like an encylopaedia of interior design ideas

Holiday destination: Cape Town – my parents live there half the year and Jen’s just been there on holiday – such a beautiful city.

Don’t stress about challenging behaviour – everything’s a phase and they (and you!) will come out the other side!

How To Drop a Dress Size In Two Weeks with Amanda Stotesbury

Crash dieting/exercise is frowned upon by (mothers!), nutritionists & fitness gurus as it is deemed unhealthy and unsustainable.  ‘You will only put the weight back on…’ blah blah blah Perhaps this is true (we will wait and see!) but if you are like me, you need a kick-start to see results quickly. Therefore you feel encouraged and hence it is easier to continue… So, how can you drop a dress size in 2 weeks?

Basically, it started as the stars aligned. I didn’t think, ‘oh December is going be my month to get healthy!’  (Why would anyone choose this month?)

I haven’t eaten breakfast for a long time, but when a nutritionist from Nestle Breakfast Cereals said

‘If you don’t put fuel in a car, it will stop suddenly, so why would you not put fuel in your body at the beginning of the day?’

I really felt she was talking to me!  I always crashed at 11 and made unhealthy choices, so since then in November I have started having breakfast with the kids (usually porridge)

This helped me energy levels enormously.

When I heard about Amanda from Bella Bello and her two-week kick-start course, I jumped at the chance to give it a go. Amanda is a personal trainer and pilates teacher and works throughout London.

She came to my house 3 times a week and either trained me at home, interval training in the park or on an actual jog. I must say, I loved the boxing the most – might have to get some gloves!

img_1786

Amanda may even bring her dog Goose!

img_1782

She also enlightened me about a common problem woman have after pregnancy. No, not weak pelvic floor (although that is super important!)

Diastis Recti

It is basically the gap in your abdomen after pregnancy and unless you close it through breathing and pilates exercises, normal sit ups will futile and only make the problem worse, hence never getting your abs back. We worked on this and she showed me some exercises to narrow the gap.

If you would like her to check your Diastis Recti, drop her an email and she will very happily swing by for 10 minutes and give you a quick prognosis!

Anyway, usually at this time in December, my face is puffy, I am grabbing a croissant for breakfast due to a permanent hangover and I am tucking my tum into Spanx.

But not this month!!

I actually went for a jog this morning. This is a view of the Thames from Hammersmith Bridge.

She also recommended two great apps  Gym Boss for interval training and Nike Training  for prompts & encouragement whilst you train.

I have also just bought a Nutri Bullet from a friend who is moving back to the States and I have got the kids on board too. They are loving the concoctions.

Smoothies, juices, beverages, drinks variety

Amanda gave me so many top exercise and nutrition tips over the course of two weeks and has left me with a little plan to continue what we started.

Amanda’s 5 Nutrition Cheats

  1. Replace pasta with butternut squash spaghetti (spiralized butternut squash) M & S is my favourite
  2. Freeze blueberries as a delicious snack and you are far less likely to eat the whole punnet if it’s frozen.
  3. To battle my mid-week chocolate craving I keep a low-calorie chocolate powder in the cupboard or have a matcha latte.
  4. Instead of ice cream, slice up bananas and freeze. Then put in a blender with anything you’d fancy to make healthier ice cream!!
  5. Eat from smaller plates and bowls this is an old trick but it really works!!

Amanda’s 5 Training Cheats

  1. If you’re struggling to get out and run, just say you’re only going to do 10 minutes. I find the moment you get to 10 you always want to carry on for another 10!
  2. If you really can’t get motivated for the gym put on YouTube at home and find a workout. I love Fitness Blender but there are tons of workouts on there to choose from.
  3. Buy new fitness clothes! This always inspires me to workout.
  4. Not really a cheat but get a personal trainer! No self motivation needed we do all the work for you!
  5. If you don’t fancy running one day then don’t force yourself instead do a 30 minute hiit workout! Similarly if you can’t face lifting weights go for a jog! It’s all about consistency so whatever gets you up off the sofa go for it!

So the real test will be Christmas. With the help of My Fitness Pal I will be able to spread out the calories and if all else fails, I will just book some more sessions with Amanda!

Why don’t you book her for January?

£240 for 6 1 hr sessions.

Now that would be a great Christmas present!

Daisy Hambro : Tobias Clothing

Thank goodness for Tobias Clothing. Mens small boutique clothing brands are so few and far between and most of those that are around miss the mark completely. Not Tobias. Tobias Clothing is an ethical fashion brand designing mens conformable and stylish mens casual cotton and linen shirts. Even my husband likes them, now that’s something!

FVF_8884

Daisy Hambro started Tobias in 2012, when she was living in India. It was all thanks to her husband – hence the name Tobias.

IMG_0046

He had a shirt which he had bought when he was 17 and wore so often it was threadbare.

It got to the point where he couldn’t go on wearing it, so I asked a local tailor to copy it and put different prints and colours on the collars and cuffs.

FVF_8362

When people started admiring it the idea of the business came about. Daisy now has a collection of 16 different cotton and linen shirts each with their individual splash of colour on the collar and cuffs.

10% of all the proceeds go directly to the Akanksha Foundation, who educated under privileged children in Mumbai.

Now that’s incentive to buy a shirt!

Jo Wiltshire : Childcare.co.uk

Jo Wiltshire is an author and journalist specialising in parenting and family issues. A former celebrity interviewer for The Mail On Sunday, she has written three books on parenting, co-authored several other titles, and is a regular commentator on family topics in the press, online, on radio and on TV.

jo-headshot-2

She is currently working with Childcare.co.uk, the service which helps parents, nannies and childminders to connect.

Jo has two children and believes that every parent is the best expert when it comes to their own children. She aims to support and encourage parents to trust their own instincts.

Childcare.co.uk was founded in 2009 by Internet entrepreneur Richard Conway when he and his wife Hayley struggled to find a babysitter after the birth of their first child. Richard felt sure there must be an ‘Amazon’ of childcare and searched online but couldn’t find anything, so decided to create one himself.

Childcare.co.uk is the UK’s largest online community of childcare providers, schools and private tutors. It’s aim is to provide trusted and reliable support for parents across the whole of the UK.

logo

All childcare providers and tutors can be rated and reviewed by parents using a 5 star rating system. In addition to the rating scores, parents can write their own custom written review of their experience. Childcare providers and tutors have the opportunity to respond to their reviews.

dp_childcare_facebook_post_v3_letters_find

The site and mobile apps have helped over 1.5m people find childcare and childcare work.

Childcare.co.uk recently won an award for innovation by the government’s Department for Education and was provided with funding to launch some new features to make it even easier and safer for parents to find childcare.

The service offers parents a way to search for local childcare services such as babysitters, registered childminders, nannies, private tutors and nurseries. Searching is easy using their postcode search facility which shows the approximate distance between the parent and the childcare provider.

dp_childcare_facebook_post_v3_rolling_find

The site also allows childcare providers and tutors to add their profile to Childcare.co.uk free of charge. Childcare providers can then receive enquiries from local parents via the website, email and telephone. They can also contact local parents and introduce them to their childcare and tutor services as well as being able to connect with local schools, pre-schools and nurseries.

Jo’s Favourite’s

Shop : Jojo Maman Bebe for robust quality clothes and baby bits and bobs

Website : Great Little Trading Company for brilliant storage solutions and good quality toys

Restaurant : Pizza Express because kids love it but grown-ups don’t feel like they’re sitting in a softplay centre!

Holiday Destination : Menorca for sunshine holidays – quiet, clean, friendly, great beaches. French camping/chalet holidays for no-flight destinations, Les Castels is a great chain. North Norfolk for wonderfully nostalgic breaks with beautiful beaches to take you back to your own childhood.

Parenting Tip :

You are your own best parenting expert – by all means read the books, browse the websites and swap the tips, but at the end of the day trust your own instincts and have confidence. You know your own child better than anyone. In addition: wet wipes!!

We Are All : Australian Childrenswear Brand

More often than not, when I find a really inspiring or original Instagram feed, it is often an account from Down Under. In my personal experience, I think they are one step ahead with their campaigns, designs and they are excellent at social media!! So I wasn’t surprised to stumble across a new player, the gorgeous brand We Are All who are launching across the UK.

Chantel and Rebecca are friends who bonded over being mothers and the trials and tribulations that come with it. They also had success in their professional careers and were looking for something they could work on together that played to both of those parts of our lives.

weareall_ss16_owners

Given their complimentary backgrounds (Chantel is in Buying and Merchandise, Rebecca in Marketing and Management) starting a clothing line seemed like a logical use of their skills. So after a buying trip to Paris about 12 months ago, they finalized their intentions and got to work on We Are All!

The brand is aimed at parents who are looking for clothes that are stylish, well made, and that are appropriate for the way kids move. For them, the quality of the fabric is important.

Children are so active so we wanted to create clothes that lasted rather than disposal fashion that you wear a handful of times and are forced to throw out because it shrinks or goes out of shape.

In terms of style, they looked at what was happening with fashion globally then applied it in a way that is appropriate for children.

We custom design all of our prints so we are creating unique pieces that won’t be seen anywhere else.

As you can see from the photos of their London launch at the Spring Restaurant, Somerset House, they are doing exactly that.

Their Favourites

Shop : We love Colette in Paris. They have a great mix of cool and high end brands. I don’t think we’ve ever left there empty-handed!

Website : Apart from the We Are All website (!!!), a lot of online shopping is done from the sofa without the crowds. Net-a-Porter and Matches Fashion get a good run in our houses.

Restaurant : Caviar Kaspia in Paris is always great for the food, the service and the people watching. The carafes of Vodka always help too.

Hotel : For the launch of We Are All, Rebecca is staying at The Edition in London this trip and it is certainly full of atmosphere. There’s a cool, buzzy element to the place that is intoxicating!

Holiday destination : Byron Bay in Australia is amazing. It has beautiful beaches, weather, food and so many great things to do as a family. Otherwise the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Parenting tip :

I think as mums we are always responsible for keeping everyone organized, on time, fed and clean and often forget to just slow down and be present with our children. It’s definitely something that we’re conscious of – to just hang out and connect with our children in a relaxed, fun way. Those moments are so precious to us both as
mums as well as our gorgeous children.
