Somersault: Festival, North Devon

Adam Buxton’s ‘Festival Song’  always raises a wry smile as I blush and giggle my way through it – knowing that he is referring to people like me. However, not to be put off by what anyone thinks, it’s time to book my tickets, ‘stuff the chill bag with nibbles and wine’ and head to Somersault in the beautiful grounds of Castle Hill, North Devon.

Somersault is a 5 day festival from 23rd – 27th July, jam packed with lots to do for all ages.

Somersault

It is particularly a little ones paradise. There is so much to do – the beach, crafts, outdoor activities, story telling, theater workshops and circus performing.  Hartbeeps Happy House welcomes teeny ones into a world overflowing with characters, beautiful music, puppets and fabulous props. Our Lost Boys Hideaway is full to brim with adventures for your little tykes and Hattie & Flora’s art camp will be opening doors to little creative sides.  You can also hire a nanny or babysitter to take care of the little ones.

Time to dust off that old tent…

100 Boredom Busting Ideas

My eyes usually glaze over when I hear about homemade craft activities and ideas to do at home, mostly because I think I will never get round to it. However, this post has truly inspired me and I have bookmarked it for when we are wondering what to do. Which is often!

Giffords Circus: Nationwide

imageGiffords Circus is coming to town!   Giffords is a family-run vintage circus that each summer returns with a show for families and film stars alike. They experiment with the circus form, weaving theatre, opera, dance and puppetry into a 90 minute fun filled show. They are always idiosyncratic, beautifully designed creations featuring a live orchestra, clowns, acrobats, horses, handmade costumes and a much loved goose.  The show also includes animals, illusionists, Gypsy violinists, tap dancers, tight-rope walkers, trapeze artistes, stunt riders, opera singers, magicians, illusionists and gymnasts, so there is lots to keep the little ones engaged.

Giffords will be at Chiswick House for their London dates from 11th – 24th June.

Chiswick House

Chiswick House

You burn off some steam before the performance in their beautiful grounds, feeding the ducks and a play in the great little playground.

How much do the shows cost?

All shows are priced at adults £22, children £14, with the exception of Chiswick House & Gardens which are priced at adults £25, children £15…

Children under the age of 3 do not need a ticket but must sit on a lap.

How long is the show?

The show is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes (including a 15 minute interval). Arrive half an hour before show time as seating is unreserved.

Venues

Other than having the rather undesirable ‘Easyjet’ rush for seats together,  I am definitely going to give it a whirl – but I may buy an extra seat for the 2 year old!

Putt In The Park: Keeping Daddy Happy

How many activities can you think of that keep the whole family happy? I think I have found one!

Putt In The Park is a stunning, spacious and fun Pitch and Putt located by the river in Wandsworth Park, London.

image

There was a cafe for the baby and I (the coffee was rather good, unlike most ‘ditch water’ serving park cafe’s), junior sized clubs for the young ones and water, tunnels and bridges for the toddler (he basically treated it like an outdoor soft play) Above all, it is under the umbrella of GOLF so easily sold to your other half as a viable weekend activity…

The Cafe

The Cafe

It has been such a success, they are shortly opening a sister Putt In The Park in Battersea Park – with an outdoor pizza oven!

No booking is necessary, it is very reasonably priced and there is plenty of parking. It’s a punchy call – but the playground next to it has to be one of the best I have visited. All in all, a fantastic activity for the whole family.

Parsons Green Film Society

Parsons Green Film Society is a new society founded to create a space for independent cinema.

image

Jane Strang Steel and her business partner, Howard Goldstein are both passionate film fans with backgrounds in media, film and TV. They wanted to build a membership of fellow film lovers and a local place to find movies not readily available in mainstream cinemas – classics, documentaries, foreign language and independents. The community aspect of PGFS was really important to them, and their audience loves the social element of the film nights too. With a new baby, it was a local project that Jane could work around motherhood!
