7 Personalised Photo Gift Ideas From Photobox

Most of you are familiar with Photobox.  I use it to print my photos straight from my phone & order personalised gifts.  Yes, they have an App! I know the quality is top notch and they are reasonably priced.

Have a look to see what ordered for various Christmas presents this year and I hope it gives you some ideas. I got a bit carried away but there was so much to choose from!

Photo Jigsaw £15

I figured this stocking filler would be great to keep in the car or take on holiday. It is super light and in a neat little box. No lost pieces here.

img_1599

Cushions £30

I bought this collage cushion as  a little present for our au pair. You can choose the colour border and the figuration of the photos – 1 photos or a collage like this.

img_1606

Personalised Photo Blocks £15

These photo blocks are brilliant. They are so sturdy and high quality, I wish I had bought more.

img_1605

3 Keyrings £6

3 keyring for £6 is a bargain. 1 for each child to put on their book bags!

img_1608

Christmas Bauble £10

There is no smashing this bauble to smithereens – I know I am harping on about the quality but trust me, no string is going snap, no photo is going slide and no bauble is going to smash with this one. Bullet proof (or baby proof!) Perfect for a babies first Christmas too.

img_1609

Fridge Magnet £4

I have bought a couple of these, onto keep and one of my nephew. 3 different sizes to choose from depending what layout you photo is. This is 9 x 13 perfect for a landscape shot. They also do the polaroid/ Instagram look fridge magnets too.

img_1611

Movie Poster £13

The I ordered this poster, I thought it would be much smaller and didn’t expect it to be on thick photo paper – it is incredible. One of outside the boys rooms!

img_1607

Quite fun aren’t they? Let’s hope the recipients think so!

Rebecca Challis : Lifestyle Photographer (& GIVEAWAY)

I have wanted to post about the incredible Rebecca Challis for a while, but my plan was to write about her whilst simultaneously updating my profile shot across my blog, Facebook etc and I just haven’t got round to it.  This was partly due to the nature of it being a bit shy making – promoting someones business with photos of YOURSELF (#waves) and partly due to lack of time!!

Anyway, 1st December is the day t0 remove the  dated photo of myself and my daughter when she was a baby – and upgrade.

Squeezing this Edit in JUST before the end of November, so sorry if you think I have been spamming you this week. Stay with me! It’s worth it!

I’m often asked where I hear about all these ‘things’ that I put on the blog. Basically, I have a few very savvy friends who email some gems, a lot of lovely readers draw my attention to new products and places but mostly I suppose it is from other blogs, different social media accounts and a few blogazine’s.  Going to do a post on my favourites in Jan…

Anyway, it’s amazing how many wonderful businesses there are out there. If you are thinking of starting your own business or have done already, please let me know and I will endeavour to include you in a relevant post!

Big Fashion Products Spotlight

Daisy Hambro : Tobias Clothing

Thank goodness for Tobias Clothing. Mens small boutique clothing brands are so few and far between and most of those that are around miss the mark completely. Not Tobias. Tobias Clothing is an ethical fashion brand designing mens conformable and stylish mens casual cotton and linen shirts. Even my husband likes them, now that’s something!

FVF_8884

Daisy Hambro started Tobias in 2012, when she was living in India. It was all thanks to her husband – hence the name Tobias.

IMG_0046

He had a shirt which he had bought when he was 17 and wore so often it was threadbare.

It got to the point where he couldn’t go on wearing it, so I asked a local tailor to copy it and put different prints and colours on the collars and cuffs.

FVF_8362

When people started admiring it the idea of the business came about. Daisy now has a collection of 16 different cotton and linen shirts each with their individual splash of colour on the collar and cuffs.

10% of all the proceeds go directly to the Akanksha Foundation, who educated under privileged children in Mumbai.

Now that’s incentive to buy a shirt!

Jo Wiltshire : Childcare.co.uk

Jo Wiltshire is an author and journalist specialising in parenting and family issues. A former celebrity interviewer for The Mail On Sunday, she has written three books on parenting, co-authored several other titles, and is a regular commentator on family topics in the press, online, on radio and on TV.

jo-headshot-2

She is currently working with Childcare.co.uk, the service which helps parents, nannies and childminders to connect.

Jo has two children and believes that every parent is the best expert when it comes to their own children. She aims to support and encourage parents to trust their own instincts.

Childcare.co.uk was founded in 2009 by Internet entrepreneur Richard Conway when he and his wife Hayley struggled to find a babysitter after the birth of their first child. Richard felt sure there must be an ‘Amazon’ of childcare and searched online but couldn’t find anything, so decided to create one himself.

Childcare.co.uk is the UK’s largest online community of childcare providers, schools and private tutors. It’s aim is to provide trusted and reliable support for parents across the whole of the UK.

logo

All childcare providers and tutors can be rated and reviewed by parents using a 5 star rating system. In addition to the rating scores, parents can write their own custom written review of their experience. Childcare providers and tutors have the opportunity to respond to their reviews.

dp_childcare_facebook_post_v3_letters_find

The site and mobile apps have helped over 1.5m people find childcare and childcare work.

Childcare.co.uk recently won an award for innovation by the government’s Department for Education and was provided with funding to launch some new features to make it even easier and safer for parents to find childcare.

The service offers parents a way to search for local childcare services such as babysitters, registered childminders, nannies, private tutors and nurseries. Searching is easy using their postcode search facility which shows the approximate distance between the parent and the childcare provider.

dp_childcare_facebook_post_v3_rolling_find

The site also allows childcare providers and tutors to add their profile to Childcare.co.uk free of charge. Childcare providers can then receive enquiries from local parents via the website, email and telephone. They can also contact local parents and introduce them to their childcare and tutor services as well as being able to connect with local schools, pre-schools and nurseries.

Jo’s Favourite’s

Shop : Jojo Maman Bebe for robust quality clothes and baby bits and bobs

Website : Great Little Trading Company for brilliant storage solutions and good quality toys

Restaurant : Pizza Express because kids love it but grown-ups don’t feel like they’re sitting in a softplay centre!

Hotel : Ibis France for clean, family friendly stopovers. The Legoland Windsor Resort Hotel for combining fun and good service brilliantly.

Holiday Destination : Menorca for sunshine holidays – quiet, clean, friendly, great beaches. French camping/chalet holidays for no-flight destinations, Les Castels is a great chain. North Norfolk for wonderfully nostalgic breaks with beautiful beaches to take you back to your own childhood.

Parenting Tip :

You are your own best parenting expert – by all means read the books, browse the websites and swap the tips, but at the end of the day trust your own instincts and have confidence. You know your own child better than anyone. In addition: wet wipes!!

Days Out Family Life Food

My Thyme Away With Nestle Breakfast Cereals

Sitting at my computer with the rain pummeling down, it feels like a distant memory that I was actually away for 3 days only a week ago. And what a 3 days it was. Firstly, it was lovely to go away independently of family (!) and secondly to a beautiful place (the spelling of Thyme in the title is not a typo).  I was accompanied by fantastic group of other bloggers from around the world to learn about Nutrition, Food Styling & Photography with Nestle Breakfast Cereals.

nestle_018

NUTRITION

Our time started with a talk on Nutrition by Constanza on the importance of breakfast – especially for growing children.

nestle_443

It was a wonderful insight to things I didn’t know and facts that I had ‘forgotten’.

  • Nutrients missed at breakfast, such as calcium, fibre and certain vitamins and minerals, cannot be made up later in the day.

img_0998

  • A balanced breakfast should represent around 20%-25% of total daily calorie intake (although can vary with different National dietary requirements)

A well balanced breakfast should consist of –

  1. Some dairy
  2. A piece of fruit
  3. A glass of water for hydration (tea or coffee is ok!)
  4. A wholegrain based food
  5. An source of protein (or if that is too much at breakfast, a bit of protein mid morning)

nestle_459

What does 1 serving of wholegrain look like?

  • a 30g bowl of wholegrain breakfast cereal
  • 1 medium slice of wholemeal bread
  • 2 whole wheat crackers
  • 2-3 cups of plain pop corn

whole-grain-is-the-main-ingredientof-nestle-breakfast-cereal

We each had to describe our breakfast routine – let me tell you, mine was the least glamorous!

img_1001

The other perception that I had of breakfast cereal was that it is full of sugar. Not so! There is no more than 9 grams od sugar per serving which is a lot less than I thought there was.

The other great thing to note is that there is more wholegrain than any other ingredient in their cereals (you know the boxes with the green banner across the to?)

DECONSTRUCTED RECIPE MAKING

Next up, we cloaked ourselves in an apron and set to work making a breakfast recipe with the same ingredients that make up Nestle Breakfast Cereals.

I chose Smiley Oat Cookies which are the basis for Cheerios.

I even took them home and they got the massive thumbs up!  Next we learnt how to style them for a photo for a recipe book for example.

FOOD STYLING

I didn’t really have a clue and the first thing I did was pack it all onto a tray with a few raspberries and it looked like I was whacking it down for kids tea.

So under the careful guidance of Lou I was given a few tips. This goes for products & flat lays as well.

  • Natural light. Move your product into the light.
  • If there are shadows, bounce them off with a piece of silver card.
  • Reflect the recipe with the accessories. (I.e there no raspberries and blueberries in the Oat Biscuit recipe so why include them in the photo!)
  • Brush oil on the biscuits to make them shine.
  • You don’t have to include everything in the photo. You can zoom in.

After a bit of tinkering,  this is what we came up with – my first ever food photo!

COMPETITION TIME

On the last day, we had to make a Nestle Cereal. From scratch. Ouch. It was between these three.

Then the winner would be picked from who took the best photo.

Guess which one I chose – Cheerios!  (I was told it was the simplest to make but it wasn’t easy – the piping was a killer).

Once the Cheerios had been double baked with a coating of honey glaze, I left them to cool and got started on sourcing the props I wanted.

Here is a little video of me in action. [embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T4nsngou_E[/embedyt]

There is no way to share this without sounding boastful, but for purposes of recounting my story it would be weird not to tell you – I actually won!

Collecting my prize – a Polaroid camera.  (Can you see my genuine look of delight – I haven’t one anything for years!)

Here was my shot. I am sure it was the lime matching the Nestle logo…

All these wonderful events and classes were interlaced with delicious meals cooked on site at Thyme.

I whole heartedly recommend it away for a weekend away. They also host a cooking school and cookery lessons!
