Holiday Style : Let’s Kit The Boys Out

Thank goodness the selection of boys clothes in the shops has grown over the last few years. It used to be pretty basic but now if you know where to look the boys can give the girls a run for their money in the cuteness and originality stakes. There also more individual and dedicated websites just for the boys (more on that soon!)

However, I am pretty trad in how I dress the boys so high street shopping works for me.  There is a lot of blue. A lot of stripes. Nothing too way out. So if this is a little safe for you, I won’t be offended if you quietly move on. If you are in the running for some timeless basics, stick with me and let’s head to trusty M and S.

Younger boys : 0-5

Riptape Trainers from £16

Seeing as below the age of 10 they race through their shoes at  very high speed, best to go cheap and cheerful. These are very sweet too.

Riptape Young Boys Trainers

Dino Top from £5

Love the two tone endnote too overtly appliqué.

Young Boys Dino Long Sleeve T Shirt

Blue Cotton Star Print Top from £5

Same look as above but it wouldn’t be a TLM post without a star or two in it!

Boys Long Sleeve Star Top

Dude Long Sleeve Top from £5

I don’t love the motif on this but I do love the slightly different green if you are eating something a bit different to ‘safe’ blue.

Dude Long Sleeve Top

Textured Jumper from £12

I love how M and S have focussed on this subtle texture. It keeps the clothes simple enough but adds little bit of much needed detail on kids clothes.

Textured Boys Jumper

Pure Cotton Striped Jumper £12

This only goes up to 1 yr. Wish it went older.

Baby Blue & White Stripe Jumper

Older boys : 3-16

Driving Shoes : Grey from £26

Alot of the more popular coloured boys driving shoes have sold out but this practical grey which would go with everything is still in every size.

Boys Grey Suede Driving Shoes

‘Clogs’ from £9

Who would know these weren’t.. umm.. cough.. the original ones. I wouldn’t.

Boys Beach Shoes

Printed Swim Shorts from £10

These are really fun and I am a massive fan of slightly longer looking board shorts than shorter trunks that can look a bit ‘Copacabana beach’ in them if you get what I mean.

Electric Blue Boys Swimming Trunks

Dark Blue Swimmers from £10

These are really smart and would love them in a mens sizes.

Dark Blue Boys Swimmers

Striped Rash Vest from £8

Fresh and easily spotted from the other side of the swimming pool.

Striped Rash Vest

Footy PJs from £19

There is no avoiding the football obsession (lucky if you are) and a good way to avoid them wanting team pjs is to put these across their path.

Football PJ's

Checked Shirt from £12

Roll the sleeves up, unbutton a couple of the top buttons, which on some shorts and a great al fresco look.

Boys Check Shirt

Cotton Trunks from £8

Why are these called trunks? Anyway, there comes a time in every boys life when the briefs have to go and these have to enter. I would say from age 4 at the LATEST.

Cotton Pants

Green Colour Block Sunglasses £6

A bit of fun. Until they lose them!

Hope this has helped and will emerald you to fill in any holiday clothing gaps for your little chap.

35 Items To Revamp Your Kids Wardrobe

The kids ranges at Marks and Spencer are consistently good and this season is no exception.  You know you are getting excellent quality at a fair price point but they are continuing to be more and more fashionable but staying true to their classic image.  Recently, I have been looking at the children’s section of M and S more closely than usual as my niece and nephew are part of their Holiday Campaign at the moment!  A perfect excuse to do a wardrobe edit for the little people in our lives…

R and S

I have divided up this post into four parts so you can navigate straight to the relevant category Younger Girls, Older Girls, Younger Boys and Older Boys.

Camper Van

This post is geared to switching your kids wardrobe from Winter to Spring/Summer now the sun is creeping through sporadically and they have probably shot up a few sizes during hibernation.  It is always best to buy the gems before the summer as the good stuff is usually gone in the size you need!!

Younger Girls

Spotted Jumpsuit £14

You an’t beat a little on in a jumpsuit. I love the smocking around the neckline.

Spotted Jumpsuit

Cotton Rich Twill Dress £14

This is a bit of fun if it is scorchio. Lovely and loose too.

Cotton Rich Twill Dress

Cotton Rich Striped Dress £20 (Age 1-10)

This looks even prettier on. I personally think it suits a slightly older child as it is semi structured but win win either way.

Cotton Rich Stripe Dress

3 Pack of Cotton Tops £14

I don’t know about you but my daughters wardrobe staple int eh summer is a white top. They go with everything. If they are subject to a chocolate flake down them, buy in quantity or go for another colour – but plain all the way!

Cotton Tops

Crab Swimsuit £12

The swim suits at M and S are insanely good this season. I could do a post just on swimwear!

Crab

Scalloped Swimsuit £12

So South of France. Does it come in an adult version?

Scalloped Swimsuit

Rip take Plimsolls £12

A fab take on a traditional T bar – the gold trim is a winner.

Pom Pom Trilby £10

I am a massive fan of anything with a flamingo on it and this is no exception. Good enough to hang outside their wardrobe when they aren’t wearing it.

Pom Pom Trilby

Collared Woven Top £20

I am partial to a Peter Pan collar (on girls only past the age of 1/2) and this paired with the scallop shorts would be lovely on your tween daughter.

Collared Woven Top

Red Scalloped Shorts £22

I love the shape of these. Flat fronted with buttons and scalloped edging!

This is such an easy throw on dress for the beach or a party.

Chevron Scarf

Younger Boys

Star Print Trilby £8

This would actually go really well in older sons bedroom so might just buy a trio and pin them on his wall for a bit of art deco. I have a feeling he would want to wear them though.

star print trilby

Orange Mirrored Sunglasses £6

Too cool for school. And it £6 doesn’t matter too much if they lose them / forget them or sit on them. Delete as appropriate.

Mirrored Sunglasses

Stripe T £8

Ah, Petit Bateau eat your heart out. I like that the neck and sleeves are trimmed with white not navy. Petty perhaps but I like it when navy and white stripe T’s  are more on the white side.

Stripe T

Cheeky Sweatshirt £12

There is no hiding from the fact that slogan sweats are all the rage here on in and this is as good as any I have seen.

Cheeky sweatshirt

White Chino Shorts with Belt £22

Ok, this may be far too preppy for a lot of you and yes it is def not every day wear in this household but if we had an even to go to (arm like on a boat?) these would up your game a bit. Until the strawberries came out obviously.
