NEW BRAND ALERT : loved by Da (& her Ultimate School Run Trousers)

Loved By Da LOGO

It’s rare to see a new business develop from the get go. Mostly I am sent a new website once it is up and running but not with loved by Da. I have been privileged to see it grow from conception last year when Amanda spoke of wanting to start her own business of all the clothes and accessories she personally loved, to having her first collection LIVE on her amazing website this February.

Headshot

Amanda (her nickname is Da – hence the Da in her company name) is super stylish and has an ability to put together colours and outfits that only a few women can! Her enthusiasm for what she is doing is tangible too.

For me, fashion is just as much about looking good as feeling good and if you can do this with minimal effort and a reasonable price tag you’re onto a winner in my book.

To kick off she has created The Ibiza Collection – a trio of gorgeous, one size fits all hareem style trousers. Each pair is named after her favourite places in Ibiza, a place she goes to every year.

Bora Bora

Kicking off with the Bora Bora’s (as these are the ones I have) the charcoal grey with the neon stripe down the side are absolute beauts. Named after a party bar on Playden Bossa beach, the side stripe is a nod to the neon trend this year.

Bora Bora

Old Town

These trousers have a vintage lace side stripe on charcoal grey, an ode to her favourite town in Ibiza (vintage – Old!)

Talamanca

These are on my wish list too – who doesn’t love a bit of silver & navy blue?

What I love most about these trousers, is that they are super comfortable and very versatile. Throw them on in the morning for the school run and then exercise and continue wearing them throughout the day and into the evening.

  • Trainers, jacket and scarf on the school run

School Run Style

  • A slouchy t-shirt for pilates/yoga

Loungewear

  • A pair of heels for a night out

  • Pregnant or just had a baby?

Sadly don’t have a photo of this one quite yet!!

Despite juggling a few balls (she rents out her beautiful home for location shoots and has two very active boys to name a few), Amanda has executed a perfect launch and I am excited to see what’s next!

Keep Your Kids Safe This Halloween & Bonfire Night

Not awol fireworks or scary ghouls…. By safe, I mean from traffic. We have all heard stories of car park tragedy when a child hasn’t been seen by a car reversing or  a time when you can’t spot your child on bonfire night as they charge around the field. This can all be prevented!

How?

What can you do to keep your child safe as they go trick or treating in the dark along busy roads?

What is acceptable outerwear for your child on Bonfire night?

I have the answer!

What?

Proviz Sports setup by entrepreneurial brothers, Ant & Bob Langly-Smith, is a one stop shop for all your high visibility needs.

(BTW you don’t realise you need high vis, until you need it – if you get what I mean!)

These fantastic fleece lined jackets from Proviz are so reflective you almost need sunglasses to protect you from the brightness.

Can you  see the jacket is actually brighter than the fireworks!

Reflective Jacket

Why?

So what else is great about The Reflective 260 Jackets

  • Fleece lined – warm
  • Water proof
  • Reflective
  • Have a hood
  • Pockets
  • Longer back – perfect for cycling

Front on

My children absolutely love them and as they are understated I allow them to wear them to school if they have late clubs that day or keep them in the car to throw on them at low light.

What About Daytime Visibility?

If you would like your child to be seen day and night, the yellow jacket is visible in daylight whilst also having a reflective strip to be seen in the dark too.

Yellow night rider

Do Your Kids Cycle or Scooter during Dusk & Dawn?

Then they need these reflective cycle helmets!

The helmet comes equipped with an intelligent adjustment system to give a secure individual fit and allows for the height and circumference to be pre-set, meaning it can be quickly and easily adjusted to allow your child to get the perfect fit and maximum comfort.

The headring also has 2 integrated LED lights and a reflector.

What About Your Pooch?

This dog coat (in 5 sizes) is waterproof as well as reflective!

Whether you are a cyclist, runner and need reflective clothes and accessories, you will find it all over at Proviz Sports!

What Sort of Jacket Should You Get?

It’s jacket season. Even if a sweater or jumper will suffice, it doesn’t finish off your outfit like a jacket. I am not talking a big fur lined parka that we need for the majority of Autumn/Winter, no, just a little jacket that you can throw on and that goes with most things.

Utility jackets were popular last year and there are still a few around but I am delighted to see that blazers and bombers are still donning the front row of London Fashion Week.

(If you are wondering where I get my information from, which I don’t blame you for thinking – it is many hours reading blogs, magazine and perusing fashionista’s accounts on Instagram. I like to think I am the filter that separates the wheat from the chaff – in terms of price and actual wearability!)

SHEARLING

Shearling will be popular for both short jackets and longer coats. (Teddy jackets are a thing  that is circulating that I’m hoping won’t catch on).

If it’s your thing New Look have a lot of different colorways at the moment (although I do love the zip..)

Teddy

My ultimate shearling coat however, would be this dream coat from ME+EM.

Seeing as it is £1 short of 1k, I won’t hold out much hope but am on the hunt for something 10% £1000.

Shearling Jacket

BROWN

There is a lot of brown around at the moment. If you look sophisticated in shades of brown (generally works on warmer skin and darker hair) rather than a walking xxxx, this is a lovely well priced jacket from Sezanne.

Sezanne

LEOPARD PRINT

You will have had to be walking around backwards not to notice all the leopard print coats on the high street.  I really don’t think this is a trend that I will be joining as I just really look like Pat Butchers little sister in a full length leopard coat.

BUT I love short. I love zips. I love bombers and I LOVE Stella Macartneys Leopard Print jacket. Again. I have only included for inspiration but if anyone can tell me a high street version, I will buy them one too!

Stella Macartney

I would also err on the side of caution as when a trend (leopard) is this big (aka I have heard of it) I wouldn’t invest too much dollar in it as it may look reallllly wrong next year! If you want leopard print go for a another animal print or different colour way.

Now, we have done trends – this is my realistic hit list…

The Hair Faux Fur Jacket from Hush is pretty cute…

Hari

I am almost truly set on this Holister Co shearling for £65. It will definitely that satisfy that shearling shaped hole.

Holister Co

You can’t go wrong with this £20 ASOS cotton bomber. It’s in my shopping cart! Works at pick up, with work out gear or even over a evening wear.

ASOS Bomber

If you are on the hunt for a genuine leather biker, I really like the shape of the Select Femme ones. Not a quick purchase at £230 but a brand worth investigating…

Select Femme

If you are looking for sleeveless, which you can also wear underneath your coat when it gets colder for extra warmth, these Big Cat Clothing gilets are warm and a great fit, good length & come in loads of different colours.

Big Cat Clothing

I’m loving all of Zara’s blazers right now, and this crepe one with pleated sleeves is a lovely (especially at £59!)

Zara Blazer

Another staple is a denim jacket. I like light blue and stretchy (maybe a bit summery) but I think any denim is a perfect transitional piece and one that you will use year in year out.

I haven’t had any luck with my ideal denim jacket but if you want a girlfriend denim jacket (slightly looser) or embroidered, there are plenty.

This Silk Fred number would be a talking point! (£35)

Thank you for reading! Hope this has inspired rather than confused!

10 Styles To Get You Into Sneaker Season

It’s been a while but I’m back feeling refreshed and enthused once again about sharing my finds with you. I have taken a step back the last few months, especially from collaborations, and enjoyed a season with friends & family and when I have worked, it’s  been to keep on top of www.tlmedit.com! Now looking forward to returning to my first love and the reason I started The London Mummy – to write what I feel at the time of sitting down to write!!

And today that is a TRAINER POST!!! The reason that it is a trainer day, as I have been on the hunt for a new pair (you have to buy yourself a new pair each season and it doesn’t have to be expensive).

First and foremost, I have to outline what is currently ‘in fashion’. Not one to follow trends it would be rude not to share what’s on every fashionista’s feet at the moment.

GO HARD OR GO HOME

Forget white plimsols with stars on them (so last year) it’s now all about chunky, big soled, old school style, trainers.

If you are yet to venture there – let me give you some inspiration that I have taken from Pinterest.

Leading the charge (in my opinion) are the Nike Air Max 90/1. Dig them out – I am sure you own a pair you have just forgotten! air-max-90-1-shoe-tllw3h

Another brand I love that you will find similar styles to the above, is Italian brand, Diadora.

I have my eyes on these N902S which are £80

N902

If you are feeling more daring, they have a wonderful collection of colourful sneakers – these Diadora Heritage Monte Carlo £230 are my favourite but sadly out of budget!

201-174782_90001_05_hr

If you like the style above, Cheltenham based Keith Scarrott is on fire with their new season animal print sneakers. I love these Greta’s and at £149 they aren’t too eye watering!

greta-right-leopard_540x

Air and Grace are hot contenders for snazzy sneakers. I have my eye on the Multi Coloured Trainers that are in collaboration with Zoe from Dress Like a Mum.

Carnivale

I have to tell you about these Leather High Top Trainers which are available for pre order. So tempting…

leopard high tops

Heading back to chunky trainers, if you are unsure about the look so don’t want to spend too much money, Misguided have a pair in three colour ways for £35.

pink-colour-block-upper-chunky-sole-trainers

Heading over to ASOS, they have a pair that mix the sports look of the chunky trainer with the lifestyle look (of a mum) leopard print!! Here are the

Deputies…

Deputy Trainers

There were too many fantastic colour combinations over at Veja, but I am a massive fan of their trainers. These roller trainers are their latest design! Try doing the school run in them 😉

veja-x-flaneurz

& Other Stories have a good range of mid priced sneakers. I love these Nike Air Force Low 1 sneakers and am now deciding whether I go for them rather than the safer navy/red at the top.

What do you think?

Thank you for reading and I look forward to sharing my discoveries with you. If you have any topics you would like to investigate, please let me know hello@thelondonmummy.com

4 Heatwave Dresses If You Don’t Want To Bare Your Body

I don’t know about you, but when it is this hot, especially this heatwave,  I can’t wear sleeves or cover my legs. However, I won’t do shorts or scrappy vests (nothing wrong with this but you have to be a bean pole) – it has to be a dress. There is something wonderfully freeing about the sun shining that makes you forget your foibles and just get it all out. That’s until the sun goes down and all of a sudden I feel a bit self conscious flashing my bingo wings in a strappy vest and showing off my thread veins to all and sundry in a short dress.

So, what to wear to stay confident the whole day? I have found a few bits that look and feel cool without flashing too much flesh.

A linen shirt dress is a low key stylish way to keep cool

Whistles Bella Linen Shirt Dress £139

An off shoulder dress is universally flattering and this long length maxi will hide any cankles.

Maison De Nîmes Maxi Dobby Dress £65

Denim is always a good idea and light weight denim fabric chambray is a perfect summer alternative to heavier denims and this sleeve and length is still feline with nipped in waist.

Oasis Angelica Dress £55

A strategically placed knot below on this fabulous T shirt dress, will draw the eye away from any area you don’t want the eye to go to!

All Saints T – Riva Dress £98

Hope this has helped inspire a few purchases. The heat is here to stay for a while so worth investing in these classic pieces.

Stay cool ladies xx

New Brand Alert : Liberation Swimwear

One market that needs a few new brands is clothing for teens. There are few companies that target teens (please email me if you have any small business recommendations for teens!) however, two teenagers themselves have spotted a gap in the market for teenage swimwear.

Ellie Spark and Jemima Feather, both 18, started Liberation Swimwear last year. They both always wanted to start a business and thought there was a gap in the market for fun and affordable swimwear for teenagers.

Liberation girls

They have both been going to Cornwall since they were little and do lots of waterskiing. They were always looking for an alternative from their wetsuits. Linking with increasing awareness of the danger of UV, having a product which protected you from the sun whilst looking vibrant was a win win situation!

They also sell fun bikini’s.

Liberation Bikini

They are both doing their A levels at the moment but once they are over, they are really looking forward to focusing more on Liberation.

How entrepreneurial – I wish them all the best!

Auree Jewellery : How To Style Your Summer Holiday

Whether you’re jetting off to party in New York, relaxing on the beach in Italy (with the little ones in tow) or exploring the streets of Barcelona, don’t fret, all you really need is a handful of carefully selected jewels. The Sunday Times described Auree as the ultimate Beach Candy; but what are the key pieces that Amelia, Founder of Auree Jewellery, will be squeezing into her suitcase this Summer?

Take it away Amelia…

This utterly beautiful gemstone necklace is something I always take away with me. A pretty combination of natural gemstones nestled in 18ct Gold Vermeil, it is easy to put on and goes with everything. It will take you from the sun-lounger to the cocktail bar (I’ll have an Aperol Spritz) – and on until you are rudely awoken at sunrise by your little treasures…

auree-nellore-necklace

Striking yet neutral gemstone earrings are something I wear everyday as you can really wear with any colour. This design is also great as they can’t be pulled by little children! Pretty crystal drops that catch the light and will pick up other colours making them super easy to wear.

auree-cannes-necklace

I have recently started wearing more silver again and this necklace (with its matching bracelet and earrings) is a new favourite. A classic piece to go with a maxi dress and crucially, a tan.

auree-kelso-necklace

I like to get to the airport HOURS in advance (my husband teases me that I would be happier going the day before) so for me, a good Summer watch is essential. Our Montmartre watches combine hand sewn two tone soft Italian leather with a no-nonsense Japanese movement. We’ve just launched a selection of limited edition watch straps in beautiful Summer colours.

img_1999

How many times have you packed your heels and not worn them? The opposite is true for our new Brooklyn necklace. You’ll be packing it (and wearing it) every day. And no city break (or trip to New York) will be complete without it.

auree-brooklyn-necklace

So many tempting ideas, that will see you through summer and beyond. I love the gemstone necklaces. Pretty!!

Don’t Dismiss The Jumpsuit

Ever since I tried and bought a black jersey jumpsuit, I have been a jumpsuit convert. They are  comfortable, hold me in place (love that I can bend over without the fear of a builders bum) and makes me feel like I have still got it. (I was going to use the word cool but after watching Love Island – apparently cool is really not cool and I refuse to say ‘sic’).

Here are a few jumpsuits I have my eye on and a lot are on sale at the moment.

Warehouse Blossom Print Jumpsuit £59

This would be a lovely jumpsuit for holidays. I love the bright red and flowers on it although I can see that it wouldn’t be for everyone!

Blossom Print Jumpsuit

Mela London Palm Tree Print Jumpsuit Now £20

This is the perfect beach jumpsuit. Be quick as there are only a few sizes left (and I am going to buy one, so that’s one less!)

Mela Palm

Whistles Broderie Jumpsuit £109

If I could guarantee that my children weren’t going to eat chocolate ice-cream as soon as I donned this, I would go for it. Alas, they are drawn to red and brown substances during the summer months so I will have to play an air shot (regrettably).

Whistles Broderie

Whistles Bali Print Jumpsuit Now £99

Another great one for lazy summer days. It was £199 and is now half price which I am really surprised about!

Bali Jumpsuit

Whistles Denim Jumpsuit Now £99

This is a good pre fall purchase – would look lovely with your post summer tan and white trainers. Invest now – jumpsuits aren’t going anywhere!

Denim Jumpsuit

Are you on board or are you leaving this trend alone? I strongly urge for you to go and try a couple on – or order some so you can try in privacy. I have a feeling you might like them! xx
